Breaking Birth Barriers

Breaking Birth Barriers Inclusive birth doula services for families in Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio provided by Alec

Founded in 2014, Breaking Birth Barriers strives to support families from conception through the postpartum period. Navigating the systemic barriers that prevent birthing families from meeting their birthing ideals, whatever they may be, is our ultimate goal. While many seeking doula support are looking for a low intervention, medication free experience, here at Breaking Birth Barriers we believe in inclusive care for all. Experience in serving clients with:
medicated and unmedicated births
vaginal and surgical births
trial of labor after cesarean/VBAC
first time parents and those with large families
hospital and home birth
compassionate care of people regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, family dynamic, belief system
and so much more...

I’m not one for drama, but recently a local birth worker posted “only women give birth”.

I just want every nonbinary, q***r, and trans person to know that not all birth workers participate in transphobia.

All birthing people are welcome here. I’m so sorry if you’ve seen the post and felt invalidated. My inbox is open to helping unpack this harm.

I love you and you are valid. 💕

Tongue ties can be hard to diagnose. If you're having symptoms of a tongue tie, being evaluated by a preferred provider is very important.

If you’re wanting to birth at home with Agape Birth Services LLC, now is not the time for a baby. We know that snow storms are the perfect time for a baby rush, so be extra careful the next few weeks.

I’m so glad we are taking December 2022 off! With Snow Armageddon upon us I’m going to go out on a limb and say September and October of 2022 we will be busy. 😂❄️

Just a reminder as we are now approaching these LMP dates. Wrap those Valentines!

Baby Kyree J Meier-Bullock was born into water and caught by dad in the wee hours of Saturday, January 29th after over 40 hours of labor. He's a big healthy boy, weighing in at 8 lbs 14 oz and measuring 21.5 inches long! While Nicki heals and John continues commuting to Michigan for work, all while....

I often see pictures on social media of freezers full of breast milk. The caption always reads something like “thankful for my freezer stash” or “stocked up to go back to work”. I wanted to show moms what a going back to work stash normally looks like. It seems as though no one is posting about their completely normal and adequate “freezer stash”. This is 16 oz of milk, and it is completely adequate for a moms first day back to work. The average baby takes around 1-1.5oz per hour while mom is away. This means that if baby is at daycare for 9 hours the maximum amount baby should need is about 13oz. This also leaves a 3oz cushion should the parents get stuck in traffic or if some is spilled. If mom is pumping to make up missed feedings while away from baby she will get what she needs for the next day. Preparing to leaving baby is hard enough without the pressure to fill a deep freezer.
