Postpartum deserves as much preparation as birth itself.

Empowerment isn’t just about how you give birth; it’s about knowing and honoring your needs after baby arrives. Rest. Nourishment. Support. Time to heal.

You deserve care in the postpartum period, too. 🀍

✨Major breaking news ✨

We have replaced the tomato vine scented soap in the bathroom.

Or maybe it was only Lauren that was so bothered by the scent?

What do you say: yay or nay on tomato vine?

Spring daylight savings + motherhood = chaos with a side of sunshine.

We β€œlose” an hour, but the kids still wake up early and demand food like nothing happened.

So here we are… extra coffee in hand, soaking up the longer evenings and pretending we’re well-rested.

Be honest… how are we doing?

Hire that doula!

Here at The Haven Wellness, we say hire a birth doula as they often bring valuable education, emotional support, and a calming, steady presence to you (and your partner) throughout pregnancy and birth.

Let's welcome one of our own at The Haven Wellness. Amy Sickels, IBCLC is the owner of Fort Wayne Doulas & Lacation.

"This work is the beautiful culmination of moments, both small and brave, that revealed my purpose and brought me here. It started as a heart for postpartum support that provided an opportunity to sit with mothers in the stillness and newness of motherhood. To give witness to the fragile moments. The late-night tears. The doubt that creeps in between feedings. The way feeding a baby can feel both sacred and impossibly heavy.

In those spaces, I learned that support is not about fixing or directing, but about presence. About listening deeply, asking thoughtful questions, and gently uncovering what may be contributing beneath the surface. I saw how quickly confidence can erode when a mother feels unseen, unheard, or overwhelmed by challenges that are often complex and rarely isolated.

Lactation work became the natural extension of that calling. I approach lactation support as a collaborative process of investigating root causes and connecting families with the resources and referrals they need to feel supported beyond our time together. To meet families where they are, honor their stories, and build a feeding plan that reflects the whole picture. Becoming an IBCLC allows me, in many cases, to provide this care through insurance coverage, helping make compassionate, skilled support more accessible to families when they need it most."

We welcomed Georgia Manges, CPD, with Fort Wayne Doulas last week to ask her a few questions about being a postpartum doula.

Since high school, I knew I wanted to be in the field of birth work. I even started in nursing school my freshman year of college with interest in becoming a nurse midwife. But I would quickly realize that my passion for being a birth worker aligned more with the scope of doula care. Postpartum doula-ing felt like a natural entry into a doula career - it was a way to truly connect with clients at their most vulnerable, tender, and sacred. Getting to provide essential support to people after their birth also gave me more insight into the gravity of birth and parenting, which has made me a better person and a better doula. I've since branched out to also provide birth doula services and I'd say that my background in postpartum work has enhanced my role as a birth doula too!

I am trained and certified as a Postpartum Doula through Cornerstone Birthwork Training, which is an online organization based in California. I was drawn to their program because of its emphasis on "community, harm reduction, inclusivity, advocacy, and reproductive justice." Birth work is activism! I am also trained as a Full Spectrum Doula through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings, which I am currently certifying through.

My approach is client led. Everyone does things differently and all babies are unique. if something is working for you and for your baby, I will support that! if I see a spot where I can offer advice or a different perspective that may be helpful, I will gently offer it. But you are the expert on yourself and your baby, so I'm behind you!
