Christmas can cause sensory overload for many children. You may want to allow your child to open presents alone to reduce anxiety. To reduce wait times to access and play with new toys, preassemble toys before gifting, and put batteries in toys and remove packaging before wrapping so they can be played with immediately upon opening.

You may consider letting go of traditions that don't work for your child and family, and creating new ones to reduce stress and increase enjoyment.

We continued getting in the Christmas spirit for FUNday Friday! We PAINTED ornaments and CREATED reindeer snacks!

Interoception is a sense that helps you recognize and identify feelings inside your body—for example, a growling tummy, racing heart, or a full bladder. As we notice these signals, our brain uses them as clues to our emotional state.

If we struggle to identify these feelings, we can experience dysregulation. Some activities to improve interoception include heavy work, exercise, yoga, and breathing exercises.

Talking about our internal experiences can help others with awareness. For example, "My skin feels wet when you splash me." "My stomach is growling, I'm hungry." "My mouth feels cold when I drink my water."
