1. Feet Positioning: feet should be slightly outside shoulder width with a feet in an open stance.

2. Knees: knees should be bent and create an acute angle with the ankles.

3. Hips: hips should pushed back and be lower than your chest

4. Back: back should be straight, with lats engaged in order to leverage your body weight against the bar before you begin your movement.

5. “Push the floor down.” Instead of simply trying to stand up, think about driving the floor away from you with your feet to promote leg engagement throughout the move.

Hear me out…we all have seen absolutely jacked athletes who move poorly. This is because isolated muscle building doesn’t help optimize coordination, balance, and “functional” strength. Sports like basketball, football, weightlifting, etc require use of the entire “kinetic chain” for optimal movement & performance.
And before you say “just do both” … consider this. Every exercise you perform in the gym is like a “withdrawal” from your bank account. When you rest, eat and recover you make “deposits” back into that account so you can have more “funds” to withdrawal in the future. Withdrawal too much & you end up with overdraft fees. So each and every exercise you perform needs to have a purpose & fit within a plan to create optimal outcomes. More isn’t always better. So for an ATHLETE - spend your funds wisely because you only have so much energy each workout. If you have extra “funds” … sure do some bodybuilding movements.
