When you go, because eventually we all do, why not be an organ donor? Why not save someone else’s life? A child who hasn’t had the opportunity to live?

I won’t get on a soap box, BUT Shane is one of those liver numbers and today, on our one year anniversary of his liver transplant, I celebrate his donor. I don’t know them, I can’t send a card, but I can pray that they know how grateful I am for their selfless sacrifice. ♥️

Back story:
Having a medically compromised child makes you very reluctant to go to new places, see new doctors, nurses. Once you get a routine, the fear is you’ll never get it back and these new people couldn’t love your child like their previous medical team.
That was until I was visiting family last year and my whole world changed.
I cannot praise UW Health Kids enough.
Shane sees:
Transplant
GI
Pulmonology
Endocrinology
Speech
Hematology/Oncology
ENT
Audiology

There has been no better care than the care we receive.
We have been fortunate to have amazing doctors, residents, fellows, & THE BEST NURSES.

These people made me feel like home, even though it was a 1,000 miles away. ♥️

God blessed us with UWHealth. 🙏🏼

No news is good news, right?
I’m sorry I haven’t updated as much as I’d like to, we’ve been on a journey of weaning sedation meds and that my friends was NOT easy 😅

We have one med left to wean & then we are home free! 👏🏼🙌🏼

Shane is slowly getting back to his normal self, sleeping for 4 1/2 days does a number.
We are working diligently with PT/OT to get back to climbing and our usual activities.

We praise God for this wonderful miracle that is Shane & pray that he can now be a (almost) 3 year old full of life and no limits. ♥️

Love y’all!

Hey y’all.
Shane woke up today with a very high fever.
We aren’t sure if he contracted something or if he is showing more signs of withdrawal.

If you could pray for him, I would be forever grateful.
This has been a tough week and we are ready for him to be back to his spunky self.

♥️🙏🏼

Update:
Shane is doing well. They checked his surgery site today and everything is healing. They took the breathing tube out and he is on an oxygen cannula. He doesn’t seem to enjoy it. 😢
Brittany and Shance are having a hard time getting him to stay calm, so please understand they want to update as much as possible but they are very busy keeping Shane relaxed.

Last night, I watched midweek service at Power Church and it was about getting rid of the old to make space for the NEW!
Leviticus 26:10 says- You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out for this year’s new harvest.
It really spoke to me!
Going into this I was holding on to Shane’s tracheostomy and him having it. It’s been a crutch for so many things he’s had done in the past. It’s been helpful to have in scary situations.
It has literally been a part of my everyday life since May of 2023.
It saved his life.
While I know that everyone around me has been very excited for this procedure to get it out, I’ve been holding on to my feelings of grievance for this darn tube.
I even made a joke to the doctor, do you teach intubation classes? She laughed and said NO Brittany! You aren’t going to need that anymore!

So, after hearing the sermon last night, I realized I was holding on to an old crutch. Something that had always been there, but in order for God to put new things in Shane’s life I need to release the old to make room.

So today, I will stop staring at this trach that is no longer inside of his neck and release it.
I thought about throwing it away, but I learned children in Mexico have a shortage of trach’s, so I am going to figure out how to send these out to them!

Matthew 9:17 You cannot put new wine into old wine skins, they will burst. You have to use a new wine skin. ♥️

Alrighty friends!
Day 754 of trying to sedate Shane:
I’m just kidding 😅 I think it’s been 3 days. Someone send a calendar 🤦🏻‍♀️

Last night we found that Shane’s mucus in his lungs seems to be dry, so he is getting frustrated with having to breathe around that.
We have tried ALL of the bowel regiments and this boy will NOT p**p.
My concern is that if they keep feeding him through his GButton, he’s not moving the food, that he will eventually throw up. That sounds scary given our current situation. So, Mama Bear stepped in and said no more feeds until he p**ps! 🙏🏼
We are having to switch medication to try and better sedate him, he’s currently at the maximum level they would give him of Fentanyl, so now we will try Morphine.

I really thought I’d be bored sitting here this week, BOY was I wrong! 😅
This sweet boy is my world and I cannot wait for all of this to be behind us and for us to get back home to watch the rest of the grain haulers pass our little apartment and see the excitement in his face. ♥️

As always, thank you so very much for the prayers. God is in complete control and I trust him with his plan!
Two more days. Two. More. Days. ✌🏼

Good Morning Family!
Thanking God for another beautiful day! 🍂🍁

I am going to do a morning update because I’m not sure where today might take me. ☺️

Shane got to ICU heavily sedated and still under the last of his anesthesia. Which looked promising.
Then, in true Shane fashion, he wanted to wake up.

Due to the fact that he just had a very hard surgery, that is directly affecting his airway, he cannot get up. It needs to heal. 😵‍💫
So, throughout the night we have been giving him extra meds here and there when he looks to be stirring!

The plan for today is to stay quiet, calm, relaxed and asleep! 🙏🏼

You just can’t keep this boy down. 😂

Thank y’all for checking in on us, praying with us.
God is so faithful & is here with us.
Sending all the love!

*I’m including a picture that depicts what Shane had fixed, and since they fixed it, the trach is OUT!
The top one is a normal trachea, the bottom one is how Shane’s was.

Surgery went well!
Shane is in the ICU for recovery.
For his privacy I don’t want to post a picture just yet.
He is sedated and will be until Friday when they are able to take him back to scope to make sure everything looks good and they will extubate him then. (Take the breathing tube out)
Right now we need him to rest and heal.
I am praying we need less sedation meds and have an easier wake up than his transplant.

I will update as I can!
For now we are sleepy. ♥️
All the glory to God. 🙌🏼🙏🏼
