Family Matters Counseling Center started years ago when Owner/Founder Robyn Bone watched the show Family Matters and realized that all families have struggle but resolution can be found! She also realized that "family" is not always the same for everyone so therefore people identify who is in their "family system". Starting as BONECareers in 2012, the practice has now merged into a holistic counseling center that focus on services including: career/academic counseling, individual counseling, couples counseling, family therapy, adolescent counseling, and drug and alcohol counseling and assessments.

Feeling disconnected? Try four therapist-tested practices that actually help couples reconnect: 1) Weekly 15-minute check-ins to share wins and worries. 2) Clear conflict rules (no name-calling, take breaks) to stop escalation. 3) Shared goal-setting—small, measurable steps you both agree on. 4) Aligned self-care—support each other’s routines so individual health boosts the relationship. Couples who use these skills often report better communication and fewer fights. Ready for practical, skills-based support in Fort Worth (Hillwood Parkway)? Trauma-informed care puts your safety and pace first. At Family Matters Counseling Center we focus on three clear phases: stabilization (building coping skills and safety), processing (gently working through painful memories), and integration (reconnecting with life and relationships). We use evidence-based approaches—like CBT, EMDR, and family-focused therapy—tailored to your needs. Measurable progress can look like fewer flashbacks, better sleep, improved relationships, and stronger everyday coping. Services available for adolescents, adults, and families in Fort Worth (Alliance). Ready to take the next step? Visit https://wix.to/bxIzuAM to learn more or call us to talk through options.

Noticing changes in a teen or partner and not sure what they mean? Depression doesn’t always look like sadness. Look for less obvious signs — sudden drop in school or work performance, increased irritability or withdrawal, changes in sleep or appetite, persistent fatigue, unexplained physical aches, loss of interest in hobbies, or risky behavior. If these last more than two weeks or start affecting daily tasks and relationships, it’s time to seek a professional assessment.

At Family Matters Counseling Center in Alliance/Fort Worth, we take a holistic approach — blending lifestyle support, relationship work, and evidence-based therapy to treat the whole person (not just symptoms). We also help when depression shows up alongside academic or occupational challenges.

Ever had an apology that sounded perfect — but still left you unsettled? That’s because apologies land differently for everyone. In our latest post we break down the 5 apology languages (Expressing Regret, Accepting Responsibility, Making Restitution, Genuinely Repenting, Requesting Forgiveness) and show how meeting the right need can turn a stalled “sorry” into real repair.

Whether you’re parenting, partnering, or supporting a teen, understanding these languages helps you give — and receive — apologies that actually heal. We focus on the whole person: mind, body, and lifestyle, so repair becomes lasting, not just polite.

Read the full piece to identify your apology language and learn practical tips to apologize (and listen) better. What apology made you feel truly seen? Share below — let’s learn together. 🌿💬

It’s not that the apology was bad. It’s that it didn’t land, and today we’ll explore why that could be.

Feeling overwhelmed by school stress? You’re not alone — and there are practical steps that really help. Here are three clinician-backed tools teens and caregivers can start using today: 1) Box breathing to calm the body fast — try 4‑4‑4‑4 for a minute between classes. 2) Activity swapping: replace one hour of screen time with a short walk or hobby to lower reactivity and boost focus. 3) Brief exposure + coaching: face a small school worry with a trusted adult, celebrate small wins, then build up. Our multi‑modal approach at Family Matters blends skills training, family support, and evidence-based therapy to make these doable at home and school. If you’re in Fort Worth — Alliance (9800 Hillwood Parkway) — we’re here to help your teen thrive. Learn more: https://wix.to/MYwkYIN . Call or message us to get started.
