Clinic will be OPEN this Thursday, February 18th and Friday, February 19th with limited hours. We are working to reschedule all appointments from this week as soon as possible. “Make-up” clinic dates will be offered when we can best accommodate patients.

If you can safely make it to your appointment, we will be delighted to see you! Until then, know that we are thinking of you and praying for your warmth and safety. 🤍

We have made the decision to close clinic tomorrow and Wednesday to ensure the safety of our staff and patients. Many of our staff are still without power. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We are hoping to plan a few make-up clinic days to accommodate patients previously scheduled. We appreciate your understanding and patience!

Hi y’all-- wanted to share these AMAZING before & after pics of my sweet patient with melasma and sun spots. HUGE improvement with my favorite prescription-strength compounded lightening cream + sunscreen + strict sun protection. No lasers, no chemical peels (although those can be very beneficial).

**I know the lighting and angles are a little off. We don't have a fancy camera set up in our office—these photos are taken from our clinic iPads— but you can definitely appreciate the improvement! 🤩

P A T C H * T E S T I N G⠀
⠀
▫️What is it?▫️⠀
🔹A very useful test to apply when we suspect that a rash is caused by something coming into contact with your skin (an allergic contact dermatitis, or ACD).⠀
🔹Getting a rash to poison ivy or nickel are examples of common ACDs.⠀
⠀
▫️Does it hurt?▫️⠀
🔹Not at all! This is NOT the same as allergy prick testing (which tests for reactions to pollen, mold, dust mites, etc), typically performed by allergists. ⠀
🔹In PATCH testing, which is commonly used in dermatology, small STICKERS are placed on your back to see which allergens you may have reactions to (see next photos for a visual). ⠀
🔹In my office, we use the NAC-80 Series which tests you for EIGHTY of the most common allergens. ⠀
🔹Common allergens include nickel, cobalt, fragrance, preservatives (commonly found in cosmetics, personal products such as shampoo, or even clothing). ⠀
⠀
▫️What to expect?▫️⠀
🔹Patches get placed on your back on Monday. ⠀
🔹On Wednesday, you return to clinic and we remove the patches and do an initial “read” to check for any reactions (redness/inflammation corresponding to the allergen).⠀
🔹On Friday, you return for the FINAL read. We go through your positive reactions, give you information on each of them, and advise you on what allergens to check for and AVOID. Feel free to bring the products you use at home so we can check!⠀
*You cannot get your back or the patches wet during this 5 day process* This is often the hardest part!⠀

▫️Is it covered by insurance?⠀
🔹Usually, yes!⠀
⠀
🔹Not everyone with a rash has an allergic contact dermatitis and patch testing does not always reveal positives. With a thorough history and physical, a board-certified dermatologist will let you know if we think patch testing would be useful!

A good Vitamin C serum should hold its place in your anti-aging skin care routine.⠀

🍋Vitamin C is a potent anti-oxidant—helps with aging skin and dark spots (brightens complexion)⠀
🍋Also helps stimulate collagen in the skin (👋hello youthful looking skin)⠀

✴️Make sure your Vitamin C is kept in a dark container as it gets oxidized and will lose its effect if exposed to light⠀
✴️Concentration: should be at least 10-30% Vitamin C⠀

❇️By far, the most popular serum is CE Ferrulic by . It has added Vitamin E and ferulic acid to help Vitamin C work even better. It’s a splurge item but worth it. Formulation and quality of Vitamin C is super important.⠀

❇️If you have more sensitive skin that is prone to acne or if you have more oily skin, I really like Phloretin CF by . (This is what I personally use.)⠀

🔷Apply 3-4 drops to your face & neck every morning after washing your face (then apply moisturizer/sunscreen).⠀
⠀
🟪A good OTC option is the Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum. It has a lower concentration of Vitamin C (or L-ascorbic acid) but is a great gentle option. Other OTC products I’ve tried have a grainy texture or don’t rub in quite as nicely. I always try products out myself before recommending to you all!⠀
