Behind the Exam Door 🚪

Bestie… you said your mood feels off. Your anxiety is suddenly through the roof. Your doctor ran labs. They came back “normal.”

And somehow the conversation jumped straight to an antidepressant.

Listen… hormone mood changes are real. And too many women leave appointments dismissed in healthcare because the numbers fall in a “normal” range.

But normal labs-still sick is happening everywhere.

You deserve care that looks beyond the labs and actually listens to what your body is saying.

This week’s Behind the Exam Door: what to say when the appointment skips curiosity and goes straight to a prescription.

This week’s unladylike act?
I stopped chasing a friendship that wasn’t meeting me halfway.

No confrontation. No vague posting. No dramatic ending.

I just gave myself permission to stop being the one who always reaches out, plans the meetups, and keeps the connection alive.

Midlife teaches you something important:Midlife is a tolerance shift. Sometimes our bodies are reacting to more than hormones.
Hormones respond to your life.

When you’re constantly overextending, over-giving, and holding unspoken boundaries, your body feels it.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is quietly stop chasing what isn’t chasing you back.

ESTROGEN: the hormone everyone wants to date. 💘

She brings the glow. The motivation. The “I’ve got this” energy.

Until she suddenly stops texting back.

Hormones really do be out here acting like dating apps.

Has estrogen ever made you feel like a whole new woman?Comment “DATING” and I’ll send you last week’s hormone dating profile, Cortisol!

Symptoms still there… but the labs look normal?
Now what?

This is exactly where so many women get stuck.

Labs are not everything.
You can have normal labs and still be sick. Your experience matters beyond the labs.

That’s why this series exists.Behind the Exam Door is where we practice what it actually sounds like to speak up at appointments.

Because women deserve better healthcare and advocating for yourself at the doctor shouldn’t feel impossible.

If you’ve ever left an appointment feeling dismissed, this series is for you. Save this for your next visit.

Catch a new reel every Friday to help you get ready for your healthcare appointments!

Trigger warning: this episode briefly mentions sexual abuse. Listen with care!

Ladies Don’t Get Mad at Their Doctors.
They Second Guess Their Own Bodies.

And that’s the real problem.

If you’ve ever walked out of an appointment thinking
“Maybe it’s just me…”

This episode is for you!

The unladylike thing I did this week?

I cut my hair back to the asymmetrical style someone once told me wasn’t “professional.” And I punched up the red.

At this age, women are supposed to soften. Tone it down. Blend in.

I’m not interested.

Professional was code for agreeable. And I don’t exist to be digestible.

Comment UNMISTAKABLE if you’ve stopped asking for approval.

In the 1800s, she wouldn’t have said,
“I don’t feel like myself.”

She would have been diagnosed with hysteria.

No one asked:
Was she exhausted from carrying everything?
Was her cycle shifting?
Was she postpartum?
Was she perimenopausal?
Was she trapped in a life she didn’t choose?

Her distress wasn’t explored.
It was labeled.

Today we don’t call it hysteria.
We call it anxiety.
 We call it depression.
 We call it burnout.

And women are still prescribed antidepressants at nearly twice the rate of men.

Different century. Same discomfort with female change.

Maybe she wasn’t unstable.
Maybe she had audacity.

If you’ve ever been labeled “too much” when you were just setting a boundary, comment AUDACITY.
