Society of Black Public Health Professionals (SBPHP) "Staying Unlimited in the Movement"

SBPHP serves as a liaison between black public health students and community leaders, in an effort to foster a sense of community, encouraging leadership while cultivating a sense of purpose within the field of public health. SBPHP believes that by “staying unlimited in the [public health] movement” we will be able to positively impact the lives of students as well as the surrounding community and its members by focusing on three central themes:
• Community Engagement
• Professional/Educational Development
• Mentorship

In addition to Breast Cancer Awareness Month is it also Domestic Violence Awareness Month as well. According to the CDC's National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) (2010) on average, 24 people per minute are victims of r**e, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States, which accounts for approximately 12 million men and women over the course of a year. Definitely a sensitive and pertinent public health concern. http://www.cdc.gov/ViolencePrevention/NISVS/index.html

Women in California prisons for killing their abusive partners may get a chance at freedom. Gov. Jerry Brown recently signed a bill that allows new evidence to be considered in decades-old cases.
