Time is ticking on your favorite holiday dishes! Leftovers and desserts can become unsafe in the refrigerator after four days. The longer food sits, the higher the risk of foodborne illness.

Keep your holiday spirits high and your food safe with these four tips:
🍽️Consume or freeze all leftovers within 4 days
🍽️Reheat all leftovers to 165°F
🍽️Only reheat what you plan to eat
🍽️Plan to eat frozen leftovers within 2-6 months for best quality

As much as we love spending time outdoors and with animals, a few germs can tag along too— and sometimes spread to you.

These are called zoonotic diseases, and they’re actually pretty common in the U.S. Most cases are mild and preventable with good hygiene, safe animal handling, and simple prevention strategies.

A few you might recognize here in Texas:
🦠 West Nile Virus (mosquito-borne)
🦠 Bird Flu (avian influenza)
🦠 Lyme Disease (tick-borne)
🦠 Rabies (from infected animal bites)
