(6 p.m. Update) If the past few days have been a whirlwind of eating storm snacks and getting your kids in and out of jackets, today is WEDNESDAY. Here’s what you need to know for this evening:
🚗 ROADS
Sunshine, warmer temperatures and the efforts of our Public Works team today means we're headed into the evening with mostly safe roads.
Major thoroughfares and regional collectors throughout the city are drivable (though still wet in some cases), with stubborn icy patches in shady spots. We also saw neighborhood-level streets finally slushing up today, helping residents get out of their homes easier.
Keller PD was able to reopen the bridge between the Hwy. 114 service road and Hwy. 170 service road this afternoon, though the low water crossing in Bear Creek Park remains closed.
Drivers will also continue to encounter blinking red lights at the Keller Parkway/Keller Smithfield intersection until TxDOT is able to deploy a technician. Please continue to treat the intersection like a four-way stop.
Temperatures will remain above freezing for most of the night, but drivers are still encouraged to take care tomorrow morning, as patchy ice is still present on roadways.
🏢📚👟 FACILITIES
City facilities will open with their regular hours on Thursday, Jan. 29. Please note that restrooms and water fountains in the park system remain closed, however.
♻️ GARBAGE/RECYCLING
In an update this afternoon, CWD announced that they will resume trash collection only on residents’ regularly scheduled pickup days beginning Thursday, Jan. 29.
Recycling, bulk and brush collections will not restart until next week. That said, residents who registered for the Jan. 24 or Jan. 31 leaf collections may still place their materials curbside; they hope to service those addresses this weekend.
Between lingering road conditions and anticipated landfill delays, CWD anticipates that services may still run behind. If your street is not serviced on your regular day, please leave your materials at the curb until they’re collected.
Please also assist ground crews by ensuring snow and ice have been removed from your bins and lids are not frozen shut.
As a reminder, additional recyclables can be left beside your bins or cart for pickup next week. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
