The DoD has an open comment period until May 11 - things that could be improved on include FAIR pay for providers, applies to Military Facilities, expansion of providers - there are lots of credentialing bodies but not all currently accepted.

Sandhill Cranes like IBCLCs can be stubborn and curious- helpful traits as business owners and in sourcing root causes for concerns families may face on their breastfeesing journeys.
From nursing pain, oral restrictions or weight concerns to bottle feeding, transitioning to solids and weaning & everything(anything) in between.

During a business trip this week, schedules worked out perfectly & I was able to meet up w/Maria for lunch.

Sometimes being in the lactation world feels lonely as a business owner as we focus on business goals, serving clients and the day to day of running a practice.

The ability to meet up, share successes, talk through challenging cases and take a breather from the business our practices can help us recharge

Fun fact - Maria served families in North DFW & now serves the N.Tampa area

Late Night dishes, bottle & fl**ge prep for clients often means a good audio book to catch up or random thoughts provoking q's.
Considering the use of an SNS (supplemental nursing system) had me thinking of other ways to connect the tubing adaptor & voila! Those adorable, newborn appropriately sized bottles are the perfect fit.

Supplemental nursing systems aren't for all families but can be a great option to help baby meet nutritional needs, work on feeding skills and aid in stimulating the breast while supporting milk production or

Use of an SNS should always be done under the guidance of an IBCLC so other areas of potential concern can also be monitored.

Home from a packed summit- meeting new colleagues, making new friends & learning should always go hand in hand - a room full of IBCLC's, business pros and good food makes for a full heart.

Swag bags, door prizes, b***s, pump discussions, breastfeeding coalitions, thoughtful conversations, some tears, lots of laughter & a fabulous travel buddy - THIS IBCLC is beyond blessed and thankful.

Next up? Putting new skills and knowledge to work in order to better serve families across Fort Worth & Parker County.

A few of my faves for new moms especially in the holiday season

🎁 An adorable baby - or two, all sizes are perfect!
🎁 A mug for their fave tea, broth or coffee & a cup w/ handle preferred for helping to stay hydrated
🎁 Comfy chair for feeding sessions or resting a moment
🎁 Snacks - smaller portions or grazing during the day may be easier to manage & digest if baby has recently arrived
🎁 Whether you're offering a bottle on occassion or for every feeding, a ni**le that promotes a wide gape and deep latch is a recommended - like these triangle shaped ones
🎁 Pumping? The correct fl**ge size will make all the difference!
🎁 Pillows for your support and baby's - for your back, feet or to help bring baby close during feeding sessions
🎁 Phone- okay may not a must have but certainly handy for all those adorable baby pics, updating friends/family or scheduling appts in the early weeks
🎁 Lightweight balm, cream or coconut oil can help soothe sore nip(ples) or aidnin lubricating fl**ges if pumping
🎁 Infant Feeding Support from a trusted source- this model also comes with infant massage training, a quirky sense of humor and 20 yrs experience of helping families

Holiday Office Closure Notice

Our office will be closed December 18 – January 1 as we take time to rest and enjoy the holiday season with friends, family, and loved ones.

Current clients are always welcome to reach out if support is needed during this time. I will respond as availability allows.

January appointments are now open. If you’re expecting in early 2026, now is the time to schedule your prenatal lactation visit to ensure support is in place before baby arrives.

Moving into one of the highest travel seasons of the year the BABES Act aims to ease challenges that many face when considering security screenings.
The Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Enhancement Act aims to improve policy and procedures related to breastmilk, bottles, infant formula, infant juices and breast pumps.
Key components include:
*Improved Screening Protocols: The act requires the TSA to provide clear and updated guidance on how to handle breast milk and breastfeeding supplies, consulting with maternal health organizations to establish best practices.
* Regular Updates: The TSA is mandated to review and update these guidelines every five years to ensure they remain effective and relevant.

The BABES Act has the potential to bring consistency, hygiene, and common sense to these screenings so families can travel with confidence while also holding TSA accountable for any mishandling or contamination risks for breastmilk, pumps, infant formulas and containers.
