Anti-reflective (AR) coatings on glasses do more than look cool — they make a real difference for children’s vision. AR lenses reduce glare from lights, screens, and the sun, helping kids see more clearly during schoolwork, sports, and even nighttime activities. They also improve eye comfort and reduce squinting, headaches, and distractions caused by reflections. For kids who spend lots of time on screens, AR glasses can be a game-changer. Ask us about adding AR coatings to your child’s lenses at their next appointment.

Even kids need to protect their eyes! Whether it’s science experiments, sports, or helping with projects around the house, protective eyewear can make all the difference. Just like a hard hat keeps their head safe, safety glasses shield young eyes from injury. At Pediatric Eye Specialists, we remind families that prevention is the best protection—because healthy eyes open doors to every adventure.

When it comes to vision correction, both glasses and contacts can be great options for kids—but the right choice depends on your child’s needs.

- Glasses are often best for younger children because they’re easy to manage, durable, and can even be styled with fun frames kids love.
- Contacts may be a good choice for older kids and teens who play sports, want more freedom from frames, or are ready for the responsibility of proper hygiene.

At Pediatric Eye Specialists, our doctors will guide you and your child through the best option to ensure clear vision, confidence, and comfort.

If your child has a red, swollen bump on their eyelid, it might be a stye. Styes are usually caused by a blocked oil gland and can look like a pimple near the lash line. They may cause tenderness, swelling, or watery eyes but are usually harmless. Warm compresses often help them heal, but sometimes they require medical attention. If styes keep coming back or don’t heal quickly, call us today at 817-529-9949!

How Often Should Kids Have Eye Exams?

We recommend regular eye exams for children, starting as early as infancy. A child’s vision develops rapidly, and catching issues like amblyopia, nearsightedness, or crossed eyes early can make a huge difference in their learning and development.

For most kids, an eye exam every 1–2 years is best, but some may need more frequent check-ups depending on risk factors.

At Pediatric Eye Specialists, we make exams fun, comfortable, and thorough—because your child’s healthy vision is our top priority.

Happy Presidents’ Day! 🇺🇸

Did you know Abraham Lincoln, one of our greatest presidents, likely had strabismus (commonly called “lazy eye”)? Historical accounts suggest one of his eyes drifted upward, especially when he was tired. Conditions like strabismus are treatable today, especially when caught early in children.

Ever notice your child’s eyelid or the skin around their eye twitching? While twitching (myokymia) is usually harmless, in kids it can sometimes signal fatigue, stress, or too much screen time.

What to Watch For:
- Twitching of the upper or lower eyelid
- Occasional blinking or spasms
- If the twitch lasts more than a week, or is accompanied by eye pain, redness, or changes in vision, that’s a cue to see a pediatric eye specialist.
