What happens when a pressure ulcer stalls despite months of treatment?

In this case, a Stage IV heel pressure injury with necrosis, odor, and severe pain had stalled after months of prior care. After PolyMem Silver® was initiated, odor was controlled within days, the pain scale was reduced from 9 to 0 without medication, dressing changes decreased, and the wound closed in just over 3 months.

Contact your local PolyMem representative to discuss pressure injury treatment options.

Pressure injuries require consistent assessment and careful treatment decisions.

PolyMem dressings are indicated for use on Stage I–IV, unstageable, and closed tissue pressure injuries, and are designed to support treatment across a range of depths and exudate levels. By helping manage inflammation, supporting gentle cleansing, and allowing drainage assessment without disturbing the wound bed, PolyMem supports thoughtful, ongoing pressure injury care.

Skin tear treatment often requires protection, secure adhesion, and gentle removal.

PolyMem Silicone Border dressings are designed to help simplify that process for fragile or compromised skin. With a soft silicone adhesive confined to the border and the PolyMem polymeric membrane at the center, clinicians can support wound healing while minimizing disruption to the wound and the surrounding skin.

Available in both pink and silver options, with various sizes.

What should skin tear treatment prioritize first: pain reduction or wound progression?

With PolyMem dressings, clinicians don’t have to choose.

A 51-year-old long-term care resident developed a large Category III skin tear after a fall. Treatment plan was initiated with PolyMem Silver; no pain was reported during the entire time of treatment (after day 1), and complete wound closure was achieved by Day 85.

Inflammation is the single greatest cause of wound pain (Abraham SE, Podiatry Management, June/July 2006.)

By helping control inflammation, PolyMem dressings support a more comfortable healing process. Patients in this study experienced less pain, easier dressing changes, and improved overall care experiences.

Traditional wound care costs are generally driven by four factors: supplies, solutions and materials, labor, and healing time.

While supply costs tend to remain relatively fixed, labor and healing time may drive much of the cost variation.

PolyMem dressings combine multiple functions into a single dressing—cleansing, filling, absorbing, and moistening—helping reduce product use, streamline care, but most importantly, PolyMem supports faster healing by helping control inflammation.

This lowers the total cost to heal, not just the cost per dressing.
