So you slowed down… and it still didn’t feel like rest.

Instead, your mind kept going. Your body felt tense. And the discomfort didn’t go away.

This isn’t uncommon.

When your system is used to constant activation, it doesn’t automatically shift just because you stopped moving.

I’ll be talking more about this in this week’s newsletter.

You finally slow down…
and it still doesn’t feel like rest.

Your body is sitting still—
but your mind is still going.

The thoughts show up: “I should be doing something.”
“This is a waste of time.”
“I’ll rest later.”

So you try to push through it…
or you give up on resting altogether.

If that sounds familiar, it’s not random—
and it’s not because you’re doing it wrong.

Sometimes the issue isn’t whether you rest…
it’s whether your system knows how to receive it.

Which part of this hit the most for you?

Ever notice how hard it can be to actually relax?

You finally slow down… and instead of feeling better, you feel restless, distracted, or even guilty.

This isn’t just about habits.

It’s often your nervous system struggling to shift out of a state of constant activation.

When being “on” becomes the norm, slowing down can feel unfamiliar — even uncomfortable.

There’s a point where exhaustion stops feeling temporary…

and starts feeling normal.

You’re still showing up.
Still getting things done.

But anything extra feels like too much.

That’s often what it looks like to be stuck in “power save mode.”

In my latest Brainz Magazine article, I break down:
• what keeps people stuck there
• why rest alone doesn’t fix it
• how to begin shifting out of it

If this resonates, comment POWER and I’ll send you the link.

From Drained to Recharged🔋

Ever feel like no matter how much you rest, your energy doesn’t fully come back?

Sometimes it’s not just about rest — it’s about understanding what’s draining your emotional battery and what actually helps restore it.

This month’s Subscribe & Fly newsletter explores emotional capacity through a simple lens: what drains us, what depletes us, and how we begin to recharge.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or running on empty, this one is for you.

Comment RECHARGE and I’ll send you the link to sign up.

Think of emotional capacity like a battery 🔋

Every responsibility pulls from it:
• work
• relationships
• stress
• caregiving
• constant decision making

When the battery gets low, even simple tasks can start to feel overwhelming.

That doesn’t mean you’re lazy.

It may mean your system needs time to recharge.

♿ Fun Fact Sunday

Fun fact about your therapist:
I’m an amputee.

Experiences like this shape how I understand resilience and the many ways people adapt to life’s challenges.

What’s a small fun fact about you?

Sometimes what looks like laziness is actually emotional overload.

When stress, responsibilities, and life events accumulate, your nervous system has less capacity to absorb new demands.

This can show up as:
• fatigue
• irritability
• brain fog
• decision fatigue

Recognizing capacity limits isn’t weakness — it’s awareness.

Grief can make life feel chaotic and unpredictable.
One way to find steadiness is understanding your spheres of control.

In my latest article, I explore how separating control, influence, and acceptance can help people navigate grief with more clarity and compassion.

I took some time away recently to move through a personal loss.

Grief has a way of slowing everything down. It can look like fog, fatigue, irritability, or quiet withdrawal. It doesn’t always announce itself loudly.

This week’s reminder feels especially true: you don’t have to carry hard things alone.

If you’re moving through something heavy, support matters. Whether that’s a friend, a partner, community, or therapy — you deserve space to process.

I’m back and holding space again for individuals, couples, and teens.

Knowing your attachment style or love language can be helpful — but insight alone doesn’t always lead to change.

Secure love is built through practice:
📌noticing when we’re activated
🐢slowing down reactions
🛠️repairing after disconnection

When trauma, ADHD, grief, or past relationships are part of the picture, this work often needs support — not more self-criticism.

Therapy can be a space to practice secure connection with care. I offer trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming therapy for teens, adults, couples, and families, with tiered rates and a free consult.
