MCAS Often Hides in Plain Sight
People with MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) are often misdiagnosed for years—or even decades—because their symptoms mimic other conditions and affect multiple systems: skin, gut, brain, heart, and more.
MCAS wears a thousand masks. Unless a provider recognizes the pattern—multiple systems, multiple triggers, no clear test—it’s almost always misdiagnosed as something more familiar.
Doctors look for recurrent, multisystem symptoms that suggest mast cell involvement, including:
• Skin: flushing, itching, hives
• Gut: bloating, diarrhea, nausea
• Brain: brain fog, anxiety, fatigue
• Heart: racing pulse, dizziness, blood pressure swings
• Lungs: congestion, shortness of breath
🧩 Key clue: Symptoms are unpredictable, flaring and fading without warning.
I see this more and more in my clients. Estimates suggest almost 20% of the population may have MCAS, with women affected more than men.
The good news? With the right nutrition, lifestyle, and exercise strategy, you can minimize the effects of MCAS—even if it can’t be completely “cured.”
