April is National Donate Life Month, and at FWRG, it’s a cause we carry with us every single day. 💙

As DFW’s comprehensive kidney care partner, we see the human side of the transplant waiting list — the patients, the families, and the hope that sustains them. Right now, over 100,000 people across the country are waiting for an organ. Thousands of them need a kidney.

At Fort Worth Renal Group, our mission is built on physician-patient partnership — and organ donation is the ultimate extension of that spirit.

This month, we’re asking our community to take one meaningful step:

✅ Visit DonateLife.net
✅ Register as an organ donor
✅ Share this with someone who might do the same

It takes 2 minutes. The impact lasts a lifetime.

We’re proud to serve Fort Worth, Keller, and the greater DFW community — and we’re grateful for every opportunity to make a difference together. 🏥💙

One of the most impactful things a nephrology practice can do for advanced CKD patients isn’t clinical. It’s educational.

Patients who understand the transplant evaluation process before it begins are more likely to:

→ Complete evaluation steps on time
→ Stay medically stable during the waiting period
→ Engage their support system early
→ Maintain follow-up consistency with both their nephrologist and transplant center

At Fort Worth Renal Group, we’ve made patient education a core component of our CKD care model—not an afterthought.

Our latest resource on the kidney transplant list process was built specifically for patients in the Fort Worth and DFW region. We’re sharing it publicly because we believe access to clear, accurate medical education shouldn’t depend on which practice a patient happens to see first.

Early kidney disease often has no clear symptoms. That’s why a simple kidney function test can make such a big difference.

If you live in Fort Worth or the Dallas–Fort Worth area, your clinician may recommend kidney testing if you have:

• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Swelling in the legs or ankles
• Changes in urine
• Unexplained fatigue

A kidney function test usually includes a blood test (eGFR) and a urine test to check for protein. These tests help determine how well your kidneys are filtering waste and whether early signs of kidney disease may be present.

The important thing to remember:
Testing doesn’t create problems — it provides clarity so your care team can act early.

Early detection helps protect kidney function, maintain independence, and prevent complications.

If kidney health has been on your mind, learning what to expect from testing can help you feel more confident and prepared.

Noticing swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands? It might be related to your kidneys.

Many people in Fort Worth and across the Dallas–Fort Worth area are surprised to learn that chronic kidney disease (CKD) can cause fluid retention — also called edema.

Swelling can feel alarming. But it’s important to remember:

• It does not automatically mean kidney failure
• It does not always mean dialysis
• It does mean it’s worth a conversation

Your kidneys help regulate fluid and sodium. When their function changes, even slightly, fluid may build up — often in the feet and ankles.

If you’ve noticed:
- Tight shoes by the end of the day
- Sock marks that linger
- Rings feeling tighter
- Puffiness around the eyes in the morning

It may be time to check in with a kidney specialist.

At Fort Worth Renal Group, we support patients and caregivers across Fort Worth, North Texas, and DFW with clear answers and thoughtful kidney care.

If someone you care about has been diagnosed with early chronic kidney disease, it’s normal to feel unsure about what that really means — especially when they seem to feel fine.

One helpful place to start is understanding how the heart and kidneys work together. These systems are closely connected, and early kidney care often focuses on monitoring, communication, and realistic daily routines — not sudden or overwhelming changes.

We’ve shared an educational article written for patients and caregivers in Fort Worth and the DFW area that explains what’s commonly monitored, why it matters, and how families can feel more confident supporting kidney health.

High blood pressure and kidney disease are often mentioned together—but they are not the same thing.

Many people in Fort Worth and across the DFW area ask us:
👉 “Does having high blood pressure mean I have kidney disease?”

The short answer is no.

But the connection between blood pressure and kidney health does matter—and understanding it can help protect your health long term.

The challenge?

Early kidney disease often has no obvious symptoms, which is why simple blood and urine tests are so important for people managing high blood pressure.

We’ve put together a clear, patient-friendly guide that explains:
• The difference between high blood pressure and kidney disease
• How they affect each other
• What tests actually give answers
• When it may help to see a kidney specialist

If you or a loved one has high blood pressure, this information can bring clarity and peace of mind.
