I honor the survivor in me and the survivors in those files by soothing my nervous system, orienting to physical safety, reality checking the fire alarms wanting to off inside to the lack of in the now threats, allowing waves of grief to crash through, allowing the rage to be personified by my holy symbols of Kali and powerful Goddesses of the underworlds. We each metabolize what the collective awakens in us as we allow ourselves to move towards what supports our individual processes, knowing what we heal in ourselves we can show up for in the world.

That is the recipe for the Pain/fear feedback loop that keeps on spiraling.  The good news is that learning to interrupt this cycle is very simple and highly effective, it just takes practice, education and sometimes the support of someone like me who has completed the Somatic Experiencing 3 year training, and is educated in pain reprocessing to help you rewire your brain/body connection to safety.

Whole society's have been built around trying to keep you stuck in this pain/fear loop and keeping you out of knowing how to interrupt this cycle so you can stay in the amygdala your whole life scared and in pain. You don't have to live like this, your gifts and your brilliance don't come from that place, although it is often a necessary experience of two steps forward one step back before you come into your full power, before you relaize you too deserve moments where you get to experiment how many micro moments of safety you can let in each day.

Fear + Sensation = Pain

That is the recipe for the Pain/fear feedback loop that keeps on spiraling. Remember, pain is always a sign that the brain is stuck in perceiving immediate threat/danger and once in that state it is hooked into the loop of trying to collect more evidence of threat/danger like a predictive text trying to keep you safe through added bracing, contraction, tension and readiness for a bear to pop into your living room while you are laying on your couch feeling that twinge in your shoulder growing more intense.

You can't fight ICE/fascism while being in a freeze response.

So while we want to allow ourselves to be moved with the outrage that is coursing through us, when that outrage feels too much for our bodies to hold we will naturally go into freeze, collapse and shutdown.

It is not a moral failing to feel frozen in the face of ICE, it is simply an invitation to increase your capacity to meet the moment.

We increase our capacity by coming to our edges and learning what that edge feels like. How does your body shape itself when it is at its edge?

What does Your body tend to do when its gone over it's edge? Can you notice what parts of yourself are not frozen/shutdown/collapsed? Can you let your eyes take in a piece of the natural world while your edges are held by the ground/chair/bed/couch? What are your eyes drawn to? What happens as you allow 1% more of that to be felt?

What happens when you put a hand where you are feeling the freeze in your chest/belly/head/neck? Can you allow yourself to feel the edge of what wants to emerge: a sound, tears, movement, an image.

Orient to what is even just kind of ok in your immediate surroundings, let your ears linger on the sound of birds in the trees, feel the breeze/sun/rain on your skin, see how the sky is holding its clouds and the trees roots are still there. Feel where your natural inclination to connect draws you to reaching out to a particular friend, text someone back, hold or walk a pet, a special landscape that calls to you, movement in connection to music, and let yourself go there.

These are the practices to keep our systems from getting stuck and then trapped by overwhelm. This is how we allow ourselves to pendulate between regulation and authentically driven action, action that is innately recharging to our spirits and we will keep us in it for the long haul.

Homeostasis is your birthright. Somatic Experiencing is one pathway to getting you back there. My expertise is in helping people resolve the impacts of trauma on their nervous system from car accidents, medical procedures/surgeries, catastrophic events, mystery somatic symptoms, preverbal impacts of trauma, boundary breaches, as well as helping you to metabolize and find physiological safety in your life in general.
I have in person and zoom sessions available and if you sign up for the 6 session series before February 1st my current rates ($125/hour) will extend through your 6 sessions. My rates will be changing to $150 February 1st.
