Job Description
PURPOSE: To execute duties under the direction and supervision of the Brethren Court or Shepherd Court Resident Director; provide quality resident care in the manner that would uphold our Mission Statement.
Responsible To: Brethren Court Care Coordinator and Shepherd Court Nurse Manager.
Qualifications:
1. At least 18 years of age to work.
2. High School education or GED preferred.
3. Successfully completed First Aid training by the American Red Cross.
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be in good physical and mental health.
2. Finger and hand dexterity
3. Constant standing and walking during work periods
4. Turning, stooping, bending, stretching and lifting to assist residents, make beds, move equipment and perform other related tasks.
5. Current health certificate—examination as required
Standards:
1. Mature and emotionally stable.
2. Willingness to work with realization that errors may have serious consequences for residents.
3. Patience, understanding, and tact in dealing with residents and visitors.
4. Some initiative and judgment in recognizing with residents and visitors.
5. Willingness to perform a variety of simple repetitive tasks, many of which involve unpleasant conditions.
6. Ability to work under supervision and to cooperate with other staff.
7. Abide by the facility dress code.
8. Ability to be flexible in meeting the work schedule and work as needed.
9. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other nursing personnel and other department staff.
10. Ability to perform assignments in an organized, competent, and efficient manner.
11. Initiative, judgment and good oral communication skills.
12. Participate in In-Service education sessions as well as having the desire to seek additional knowledge.
13. A good attendance record is required to ensure the residents’ receive their needed care (see attendance policy).

Responsibilities:
1. Keeping in mind resident’s dignity-must be able to work independently when providing Personal care services to residents (when necessary) which may include any or all of the following; walking/moving, bathing, grooming, toileting, hair care, dressing, nail care.
2. Laundry service.
3. Bed making/bed change.
4. Respond to any resident call light in a prompt manner.
5. Report any unusual behavior or change in resident condition to supervisor.
6. Notify maintenance/wing nurse of any broken, malfunctioning or unsafe equipment or conditions promptly.
7. Report any suspected verbal or physical abuse by a visitor or employee to your supervisor immediately.
8. Direct all family or visitor inquires to wing nurse.
9. Maintain strict confidentiality of all residents.
10. Assist in preventing infections through sanitary conditions and strict observance of.
11. Observe residents that request a bed check throughout night time hours.
12. Assist nursing supervisor in a) filling water pitchers, b) stock linen, c) assigned paper work.
13. Conduct must be in such a manner that it does not disrupt the work place.
14. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the Executive Director, D.O.N., A.D.O.N., or charge nurse.
