World Stroke Day: Know the Signs, Act FAST! 🧠💜

Today, MetroWest Medical Center joins healthcare providers worldwide to raise awareness about stroke, one of the leading causes of serious long-term disability.

While the risk increases with age, stroke can happen at any time and to anyone. In recent years, younger adults are also seeing more strokes due to risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and to***co use. That’s why education, prevention, and early detection are more important than ever.

“A stroke can happen in an instant and to anyone,” says Dr. Anthony Izzo, Neurologist and Medical Director for the Stroke Program at MetroWest Medical Center. “Knowing the signs and calling 911 right away can mean the difference between recovery and lasting disability.”

The CDC recommends acting FAST if a stroke is suspected:
• Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side droop?
• Arms: Can they raise both arms? Does one drift downward?
• Speech: Is their speech slurred or strange?
• Time: Call 911 immediately if you notice any of these signs!

Every minute matters. MetroWest Medical Center has specialized teams and advanced technology ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

Happy Physical Therapy Month! 🏃‍♀️🦵

Our Physical Therapy team set up in the hospital lobby this week to raise awareness about the benefits of physical therapy and the important role PTs play in keeping our community healthy and active. They spoke with visitors about falls prevention and how physical therapists can help improve balance and stability through targeted exercise.

Our Physical Therapy Department is open with near-immediate availability! Stop by or call to learn how physical therapy can help you move better, feel stronger, and stay safely on your feet.
