Are you worried about navigating the holidays while supporting your child's eating disorder recovery?

We're here to help!

Many parents and caregivers of children with eating disorders dread school vacations and holidays. What may be a welcome respite and change of routine for most is a nightmare for those in eating disorder recovery.

Less structure, different food environments, and increased social events all contribute to more challenges with eating, which is why we're offering this workshop.

👉Join us on Wednesday, November 19th, for an informative and interactive discussion with several of our clinicians. Amy Gardner, Samantha Millette, and Rebecca Aslam will provide insight and guidance from a psychotherapy and nutritional perspective.

In this workshop, we'll cover:

❄️Time management - creating structure for vacation, scheduling meals, etc.
❄️Navigating holidays (meal timing, coping tools, etc)
❄️Meal support skills
❄️Managing different eating settings
❄️What to do if diet talk comes up
❄️How to handle comments about your child's body
❄️… and more!

Holidays and breaks can be super stressful.

Preparing ahead and having adequate tools can help lessen stress and open more opportunities for connection and moments of peace during this time.

When a child develops an eating disorder, it ripples through the whole family.

What often gets overlooked is how deeply a child’s eating disorder can impact a parent’s own relationship with food. Old beliefs or patterns may resurface:

Fears about certain foods
Guilt around eating
Pressure to “model” perfect behavior.

It’s a lot to hold.

If you’re working through this, we’d love to support YOU through the process. Head to our bio link to request a call with our client coordinator today.

The Finding Fat Joy Group is a space for fat folx to join in community and explore JOY! 🌟

There are plenty of spaces where fat individuals don’t feel welcome. Where they experience judgement and scrutiny. We live in a weight-centric world with the assumption that one body type is the “ideal” and there’s an assumption that we can all (and should) achieve that. 😞

This is a space where you can talk about your experiences existing in a fat-phobic world and connect with others who share these experiences. And discuss how you can create new experiences - experiences that encourage fun, joy and freedom - in whatever body you’re roaming this world in! 🙌

In this group, we don’t just accept that bodies exist differently, we celebrate it!! 🥳

Help us Support Access to Food in Our Community! 🙌❤️

Food insecurity is a huge concern and one very close to our hearts here at Metrowest Nutrition and Therapy. It’s only going to get worse as 42 Million Americans who rely on SNAP food stamps, lose access to those benefits today. 😞

We want to do something to help and hope you’ll join us! 🙏

Throughout November, we’ll be collecting food donations in our Newton and Framingham offices to be distributed to Newton Food Pantry, Daniel’s Table and The Woo Fridge (Worcester Free Fridge).

Please consider bringing non-perishable food items to contribute when you come into our office. If you won’t be able to make it into our office but want to help these organizations, we encourage you to send food to these organizations through their Amazon Wish Lists or dropping food off at one of the Woo Fridge locations. You can find links to these lists in our profile. 🌟

We hope you’ll consider helping us with this effort! 🙏

Halloween candy isn’t scary or TOXIC!! 🚫

But you know what is? All the messaging kids internalize about it. You can make a choice to parent from a place of fear — fear driven by diet culture — or from a place of trust… trusting your child can learn to listen to their body and eat according. Will she eat ‘too much’ candy and feel sick? Maybe. Will it seem like she doesn’t know when to stop? Likely. BUT this is ALL part of the process. The minute she feels you are trying to control ‘how much’ is when the body trust is threatened. 😔

Maybe you’re worried about all the media messages about childhood &@$sity and other health problems citing connections to sugar. Totally understandable! BUT there’s a much higher likelihood your child will develop an eating disorder than diabetes. AND controlling food intake actually lends to kids eating more, beyond fullness as they lose body autonomy. Establishing body trust early on is a protective measure against developing an eating disorder. 🌟

This isn’t easy and parents receive a lot on contradictory messages. If you need support around feeding and guiding your child towards body trust, we’re here to help! 😊

We hope you and your kids have a fabulous and fun HALLOWEEN 🎃 👻

Say hello to our team of therapists!

We’re proud to have full teams of both therapists and nutritionists in our office because we believe in whole-person care. That means addressing all aspects of healing, from nutrition support to mental health.

If you’re in Massachusetts and ready for this type of support, let’s talk!

The right support is key in navigating food OCD.

Look for a licensed dietitian or nutrition professional with experience in mental health or eating disorders. Ideally, they’ll have established relationships with therapists who use CBT/ERP for OCD — integrated care is best.

If someone is underweight, medically unstable, or experiencing severe disordered eating, prioritize medical and specialized eating-disorder services first.

If you’re located in Massachusetts, we’d love to see if we can support you on your healing journey. Head to our bio link to book a call with our client coordinator!

When a child struggles with an eating disorder (anorexia, bulimia, ARFID, OSFED, or disordered eating patterns), the whole family feels it.

Parents are often focused on getting the right treatment and keeping their child safe — but it’s common and understandable for a child’s eating disorder to stir up parents’ own complicated feelings about food, body, control, and identity.

This is normal, and may mean that you need some support too. Don’t forget to prioritize your own mental health while you support your child through their recovery.
