❤️ January is National Blood Donor Month ❤️

Have you ever donated? Did you know you can donate different parts of your blood?

Types of blood donations
• Whole blood: This is the most common donation. A pint of blood is collected and can be used as is or separated into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets for different patients.

• Red cells: This can be done as a double red cell donation, where a machine collects two units of concentrated red blood cells and returns the plasma and platelets to your body.

• Platelets: Platelets are collected using a machine that separates them from the rest of your blood. The red cells and most of the plasma are returned to you.

• Plasma: In a plasmapheresis donation, the liquid part of your blood (plasma) is collected, and the red blood cells and platelets are returned to your body.

NATIONAL WHIPPED CREAM DAY

Add a little extra something special to desserts to celebrate on January 5 for National Whipped Cream Day. Not only does it add creaminess and a bit of pizzaz, but it also makes the difference between the ho-hum or a celebration kind of beverage or dessert.

This holiday falls on Reddi-Wip founder Aaron "Bunny" Lapin's birthday (January 5, 1914 - July 10, 1999). Lapin invented Reddi-Wip in 1948, and the holiday celebrates whipped cream's contributions to the dessert world.

❤️January is National Blood Donor Month❤️

January marks National Blood Donor Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the lifesaving impact of blood donors and raising awareness about the ongoing need for donations.

According to the American Red Cross, winter is one of the most challenging times of the year to collect enough blood to meet patient needs. Busy holiday schedules, severe weather leading to canceled drives, and seasonal illnesses like the flu all reduce the number of eligible donors.
This observance, recognized every January since 1970, plays an important role in encouraging donations during a critical period. Donating blood saves lives and supports patients with a wide range of medical needs.

In fact, a single pint of donated blood has the potential to save up to three lives—a powerful impact from one simple act of generosity. How amazing is that?

❄️ Winter Wellness for Seniors ❄️

Winter can feel long and challenging for seniors. Shorter days and colder weather often mean spending more time indoors and less time doing the activities they enjoy—which can sometimes lead to feelings of loneliness.

Winter is a wonderful time to slow down and focus on connection and comfort:
✨ Meaningful conversations and reminiscence
✨ Staying socially connected through visits or video calls
✨ Supporting physical wellness with hydration, light movement, and warm layers
✨ Prioritizing safety with slip prevention, CO detectors, and home preparedness

A little extra attention can make the season feel more engaging, comforting, and safe.

💬 Conversation Starters to Spark Reminiscence:
• What were winters like when you were a kid?
• Do you remember any big snowstorms or winter traditions?
• How did you keep warm at home?
• What were your favorite winter foods or drinks?
• Did you enjoy winter, or did the days feel long and cold?

Sometimes, a simple conversation can bring warmth, memories, and a smile. 💙
