The providers at Framingham Pediatrics support the clear statements from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the American Academy of Pediatrics that there “is no link between vaccines and autism.” Misinformation is harmful and has long-lasting impacts on the health of our children.

We know there has been some recent news about acetaminophen (Tylenol) and autism that may be confusing to families.

We, at Framingham Pediatrics, believe in evidence-based medicine and align our recommendations with the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as other reputable medical and scientific groups including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is an over-the-counter medicine used to reduce fevers and relieve pain. Decades of research have found that acetaminophen is safe for infants and children as well as during pregnancy when used as directed. The research does not show a causal link between acetaminophen use in pregnant women and autism.

Autism is a complex, highly variable neuro-developmental condition, increasingly linked to genetics. There is no single, root cause of autism or single medication to cure autism. We continue to recommend a multidisciplinary approach that is individualized to each child that may include developmental, behavioral, educational and social supports. These are supports that every child deserves.

If you have any questions about your child’s medications, autism care plan, or other health concerns, please reach out to our office.

“Owl you need is love” - and a flu shot! These friendly faces made our flu shot clinic a huge success today. As one parent said “I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the staff at the flu shot clinic. From the moment my 4 and 2 year old entered the building they felt at ease. You turned a scary event into something they actually had fun doing!”

There is currently a significant amount of mis-information and chaos surrounding vaccines. Please continue to speak with your pediatrician about the best way to protect your children from dangerous and preventable diseases 💉🦠

To protect as many people as possible, AAP recommends that every newborn get the Hepatitis B vaccine as soon as they’re born. Why? Because if a mother has hepatitis B, she can pass it to her baby during birth... and many with hepatitis B don’t know they have it until they face serious liver problems later in life.

Often times, when adults are infected with hepatitis B, their immune system is able to overcome the virus so that it’s no longer a threat. But babies' immune systems aren’t as strong, so vaccinating newborns just after delivery allows their immune system to fight the infection quickly if exposed.

Learn more about the importance of the hepatitis B vaccine at birth from NBC News at the link below.
