Let's talk about training.
-
Sometimes training for something is more about every small step towards your goal than it is about the goal itself. It's about building that foundation of healthy choices to get you where you want to be.
-
Each time you choose the healthy thing, you silence the doubts in your head saying that you can't do what you've set out to do.
-
How are you making small, everyday choices towards your goals?

Lunge, second variation!

Why would you elevate your back foot?

Well, there are plenty of reasons. Like I said in my first post, one of my main focuses for this exercise is to create mobility in the hips. If someone has an issue with TILTING their pelvis forward, then this exercise is for you!

When you elevate the back foot, it is forcing your pelvis in to a forward tilt. Our pelvis needs to tuck and tilt equally to have proper mobility in the hips. Not to mention that the mobility in the hips, help create stability in the lumbar spine. Someone who has a lifestyle that has them sitting for often than standing, means your pelvis could be stuck in a tucked position. This does not make your lower back happy.

Or if you already have bomb ass hips, you can elevate your back foot and actively engage the muscles to pull your pelvis in a tucked position. Just a different way to change up the stimulus to make the body adapt.

As for any isometric, don’t forget to breathe and hold the position for as long as you can. When it starts to burn, hold longer. When you fail, get back up and do it again.

When it comes down to it, you should eat food. What does that mean? It means if you pick up something in the grocery store and you can't pronounce half of the ingredients, you might want to choose something else.

One of my tips...shop the outside walls of the grocery store. Stick to fruits, veggies, and fresh fish/meats.

The CONTROVERSIAL lunge!

The lunge is an amazing full body exercise. Here is one of my versions of this intense isometric.

A major focus for me with the lunge is to create mobility within the hips. Also, to make sure my muscles that are being engaged are the ones that are going to propel my body forward. To begin, I will spread my legs as far as possible WITHOUT breaking spinal stability.

For the front leg, the knee is stacked over the ankle with the hamstring fully engaged. If you can’t engage the hamstring, find a way. For the back leg, the quad is fully extended and I am trying to create a straight line from the hip to the ankle. The back leg glute needs to be fully contracted to allow the hip flexor to relax and open up. If you can’t contract the glute in this position, you better find a way.

For greatest adaptation, hold set position WHILE engaging muscles until you can’t anymore. Once you can’t hold anymore, hold for longer. Enjoy the 🔥

I should also mention, if you can’t maintain proper breath in any isometric, you better find a way.
