Life Reflections:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23

HER JOURNEY — AN EARTHLY ENTRANCE & A HEAVENLY DEPARTURE

Dorothy Ruth Peete Waller, affectionately known as “Dottie,” lived a life defined by love given freely and strength carried quietly. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, beloved aunt, and guiding matriarch, she departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest on December 17, 2025, at 7:36 p.m., in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 77.

Born on March 4, 1948, to the late Eugene Watson and Catherine Watson, Dottie’s story began in Millington, Tennessee, where her roots were planted firmly in faith, family, and community. She attended E. A. Harrold School and Woodstock High School, and from those early years forward, her life unfolded with intention—marked by compassion, perseverance, and a heart attuned to others.

A woman of sincere and abiding faith, Dottie lived her Christianity not only through worship, but through daily living. She served faithfully as a member of Mt. Olive AME Church, later continuing her walk at Unity AME Church in Millington, carrying her beliefs into every conversation, every kindness, and every season of life.

FOREVER REMEMBERED — PRECIOUS MEMORIES

In 1975, Dottie followed opportunity north to Detroit, Michigan, where she embraced new beginnings with resolve and determination. After working various jobs, her diligence and commitment were rewarded when she joined General Motors, where she built a career and later retired—proud of the work she had done and the life she was building.

Yet, it was in her role as a mother that Dottie found her deepest fulfillment. She raised her three children—Mark, Znette “Angie,” and Katrina—with care, guidance, and unwavering devotion. Her joy multiplied as her family grew, and she delighted in being a grandmother to ten and a great-grandmother to seventeen, embracing each generation with warmth and pride.

Returning home to Millington in 2010, Dottie filled her days with purpose and connection. She was known for her willingness to help, her readiness to go wherever someone needed—near or far—and her love of the open road. Driving the highways was one of her quiet joys, a reflection of her independent spirit and generous heart.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle presence, her love of home décor, cooking, writing, and decorating for holidays and special occasions. Above all, she will be remembered for her gift of conversation—her stories, her laughter, and her ability to make others feel welcome. The memories she created may soften with time, but they will never fade.

REUNITED AGAIN

Dottie’s life touched many, and her influence continues in the hearts of those who knew her. She is now reunited with her parents, her siblings Helen Hill, Bobby Watson, and Kevin Cobbs, and her beloved grandson Marcus Peete, joined together in peace beyond this life.

JOURNEY COMPLETED — LEAVING A LEGACY

Dottie leaves a living legacy through her children: Mark A. Watson (Denitra), Znette A. Peete, and Katrina Johnson (Archie); her grandchildren Alexis, Candice, Dominique, Kimberli, Marquette, Marie, Maurice (Lauren), Mikael (Lexi), and Mark II “Anthony”; and her seventeen great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love she poured into her family.

She is also lovingly remembered by her uncles Raymond Watson (Mattie) and Billy Watson (Willie Mae); her aunt Gracie Murry; her sisters Beverly Harbin (Jim, deceased), Carolyn Jenkins (James, deceased), Donna Rae Jackson (Johnnie, deceased), and Darius “Dee” Offlee (James, deceased); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Dottie’s life speaks softly but endures strongly.
Her love remains present.
Her story continues—told in the lives she shaped and the joy she shared.

Clebrating the Life and Legacy of
Mattie Lue Armstrong
May 9, 1943 – December 15, 2025

Mattie Lue Armstrong entered the world on May 9, 1943, the seventh precious child born to Loften and Eva Armstrong—already arriving with a quiet strength that would become her signature. On Monday, December 15, 2025, her spirit was gently set free, leaving behind a life well-lived and a legacy that continues to breathe through generations.

Educated in the Giles and Maury County School Systems, Mattie carried learning not merely as knowledge, but as character—steady, disciplined, and generous of heart. For more than thirty blessed years, she devoted her professional life to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, faithfully serving in Central Supply, where her work ensured that healing could happen smoothly, efficiently, and with dignity. She understood that some of the most important work is done behind the scenes. Her presence was as dependable as sunrise, and her service spoke louder than titles.

Mattie believed work was ministry: show up, do good, leave people better than you found them.

She was family-oriented in the truest sense of the word. She loved with action. She gave without keeping score. If help was needed—emotional, practical, or quiet—Mattie was already there. Her generosity was not performative; it was habitual. She believed that love should be useful.

Now, as we imagine her next assignment, it feels fitting to say that Mattie has joined a new and holy team of helpers—the Heavenly Angels—where compassion is the currency and service never ends.

She is reunited in eternal rest with her beloved parents, Loften and Eva Armstrong; her cherished daughter, Yasmin Keesee; sisters Myrtle Calloway, Bessie Pillow, Mary Bellafant, and Mary Edith Davis; and brothers Samuel, James, and William Armstrong.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Carmen Fletcher (Reginald) of Hermitage, Tennessee; her sons, Omar Armstrong and Hassian Keith Armstrong, both of Nashville, Tennessee; her treasured grandchildren Quincey Fletcher, Reggie Fletcher Jr., Camryn Fletcher, Latayia Armstrong, Jamar Armstrong, Marquis Armstrong, and Jonathan Carter; and all of her adored great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Johnny Armstrong (Amanda); her devoted niece Kambi Armstrong; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing her.

Mattie Lue Armstrong’s life was not loud—but it was powerful. It was not rushed—but it was purposeful. She taught us that love does not have to announce itself to be unforgettable.

Ms. Mortician — Chemistry Meets Compassion 🔬✨

As many of you know, my background isn’t just in funeral service — I’m a published research chemist with a double major in Chemistry & Biology, and that part of me never left.

Working in this field, I’ve seen firsthand how science and care intertwine. Companies like Pierce Chemical have shaped the tools embalmers use — from preservation fluids to restorative compounds — helping families see their loved ones with dignity, softness, and familiarity one last time.

And that’s where my passion is evolving: not just in serving families at the front desk or during arrangements, but in shaping the science behind the scenes — the formulas, the reactions, the innovation that makes farewell gentle and humane.

I may not Embalm every person myself,
but one day, I pray to be part of the team designing the compounds that help families say goodbye with peace — where their loved one looks like the version they remember and treasure. 🕊️

This is legacy.
This is chemistry.
This is calling.
