Happy ! Maintaining kidney health is vital to your overall health – your kidneys filter waste from your blood, help regulate your blood pressure, and are critical to other bodily functions. For people with end-stage kidney disease, UPMC offers living-donor kidney transplants as a first-line treatment. This life-saving treatment is possible because even though a living donor is born with two kidneys, they can live a full and healthy life with just one. Please consider becoming a Living Donor:

Darrin is a 46 year old local family man with 6 kids. Darrin is very active in his children’s lives - he plays a balancing act.

Darrin is waiting for his third kidney transplant, he has been on the kidney transplant list for 7 years. The first time his kidneys failed he was 15 years old. His last kidney lasted 14 years.

He is currently doing dialysis 3 days a week for 4 hours a day. This is very draining on him mentally, and physically . But he doesn’t let this stop him from being a great father to his children. He goes to all their sporting events, plays catch with them he helps takes care of his 6 year old son who was born with congenital heart disease and has had 5 open heart surgeries.

Darrin’s Blood Type is 0+. If are not a match and want to donate they have a program that you can donate to someone you match with and they will have to find Darrin a kidney.

Please share this post to help reach a possible donor.

March is . It’s another opportunity to spotlight the need for kidney transplants. Millions of Americans are suffering from chronic kidney disease, and more than 90,000 men, women, and children are waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant. Unfortunately, communities of color are more likely to suffer kidney failure and make up more than half of the patients on the transplant waitlist.

At Gift of Life Donor Program, we encourage everyone to register to become an organ donor. We also work with our dedicated hospital partners to promote healthy living and disease prevention. Healthy lifestyles can reduce the risk of debilitating illnesses like chronic kidney disease.

Our work continues until every person on the waitlist receives a second chance at life.

Sign up to become an organ donor today. It takes less than a minute: www.donors1.org/register
