The Refuge Center for Counseling We exist to offer excellent, accessible, and affordable mental and emotional healthcare services.

The vision of The Refuge Center is to make sure that every individual and family had the opportunity to seek therapeutic resources, regardless of income level. There are few opportunities for affordable counseling in the area, as many local therapists charge $90-$150 per session. The Refuge Center offers therapy to those who can not afford these fees and bases their fees on a sliding-scale based on income that ranges from $25-$125.

Live Intentionally 2026 is almost two weeks out & we want to see you there! This is a speaker series focused on the evolving landscape of mental health care.

As the need for mental health care continues to grow, treatment is becoming more integrative and personalized.

The event will highlight emerging therapeutic approaches used at Refuge and within the broader field, including:
- Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
- OCD education and treatment
- Perinatal therapy
- Music therapy
- Somatic movement therapy

The keynote presentation will be given by Dr. Thomas Cabell, Jr., MD, on the connection between emotional life, nervous system regulation, and physical expression.

Our Story

The vision of The Refuge Center for Counseling, located in Franklin, TN, is to make sure that every individual and family had the opportunity to seek therapeutic resources, regardless of income level.

There are few opportunities for affordable counseling in Middle Tennessee, as many local therapists charge $100-$170 per session. The Refuge Center offers therapy to those who can not afford these fees and bases their fees on a sliding-scale based on income that ranges from $25-$110.

In 2017 alone, we served 2,783 clients in over 18,300 sessions. In October 2017, we provided our 100,0o0th counseling session since opening in 2005.

We firmly believe that no matter who you are, no matter what you have done, no matter what has been done to you, no matter how much your income is or where you live, when you come to The Refuge Center you deserve to have the most excellent care possible with maximum opportunity for healing.
