Posted • Today, we’re focusing our employee spotlight on our new National Biologics Manager, . Stacie joined the Geistlich team this past October.

Her favorite memory was very recent. Our team’s “Great Hike” adventure would be in Park City, Utah. The team at Geistlich is a diverse crew with varying fitness levels, yet we they all worked hard to tackle a beast of a climb together. With a mix of sweat, teamwork, and laughter, everyone made it to the top and achieved sweet victory! It was a great team bonding experience that underlined our shared strength and perseverance!

Here is a fun fact about Stacie, she’s a huge Tennessee Volunteers fan and loves college football! 🏈

We love to share this fantastic illustration by depicting an innovative root coverage technique using GEM21. The recently published article (which he is also a part of) showed that recombinant human Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (rhPDGF)
Significantly enhances the root coverage outcomes

What are the mechanisms leading to this finding?
The illustration in the second slide by highlights the properties of the rhPDGF of stimulating the proliferation of pericytes, promoting the chemotaxis of fibroblasts and inducing macrophages to synthesize endogenous growth factors.

Patient denied and came for another opinion.
Lets brain storm here
What does the extraction entail? What does it need to reconstruct this area? Bone? Soft tissue? Time? Provisional?
Too many factors to consider!
Plan:
GTR with the use of Biologics
~ Occlusal adjustment
~ Splinting
• Procedure:
• papilla preservation flap done, intrabony defect debrided and cleaned thoroughly.
placed GEM21S mixed with Allograft. .sd placed Bioxclude membrane and wrapped it around the
buccal. sutured to primary closure ~ occlusal adjustment splinted teeth
• 6 months follow up shows beautiful soft tissue response and healing, less inflammation, reduced PD.
Radiography shows nice mineralization of the bone that will mature even more with time.
Splint was removed at 6 months due to multiple time fracture as patient was not 100% following diet instructions.

Very satisfying to me that moment when i see the etiology of a periodontal lesion...
Young guy, went to ortho with diastema, ortho done without proper Perio treatment, outcome was aligned teeth that are compromised .
Luckily, was able to point out the problem and refer the pt for perio tx.
papilla preservation flap, defect curettage and root planed, filled the defect with GEM 21 , occlusal adjustment, and close it back
Notice the diastema that formed at the end of the procedure, it was taken care of using a splint that is likely to stay there forever..
Outcome after 9 month is good with slight to no inter-proximal tissue loss and resolution of inflammation.
