BSL TIP OF THE DAY:
Pluralization in Christmas

Have you been forgetting to pluralize? ANGEL does not equal ANGELS...

For songs like "Angels we have heard on high..." did you just sign ANGEL or did you add some form of pluralization like ANGEL + THEY or ANGEL + GROUP or ANGEL + CHA...

It's one of the most common mistakes! Remember while you are interpreting this season... don't forget your pluralization!

BSL TIP OF THE DAY: Eye Gaze.

It's Christmas! Remember to look down at the baby Jesus, up at the angels, and when you represent angels, look down at the shepherds.

Interpreters constantly jack up our eye gaze but one of the number one complaints the Deaf evaluators at our workshops have made has been about the eye gaze of interpreters. They notice! When you look at the floor or ceiling to think about what to sign next, when you look at the audience when talking to the baby Jesus, when you look at the audience when the angels are talking to the shepherds... it looks "off" in ASL. The Deaf notice! Keep that eye gaze in check and you will up your Christmas song game.

Don't drop the baby!!!!!!!!

If you pick up the baby Jesus you need to put him back in the manger. If you don't it looks like you dropped the baby to your Deaf audience members, so remember... if you pick up the baby Jesus, put him back down, gently. Don't drop the baby!!!!!
