Stroke or nerve compression? Understanding the difference matters, as Dr. Arvind Ahuja explains.

A stroke typically comes on abruptly—sudden vision changes, speech difficulty, weakness, numbness, tingling on one side of the body, or dizziness with posterior circulation strokes.

Nerve root compression, on the other hand, causes localized symptoms: neck pain with tingling down the arm, or back pain with tingling into the legs, usually on one side.

Pay attention to how suddenly symptoms start and where they show up—those clues can help distinguish between a medical emergency and a nerve issue.

Dr. Arvind Ahuja was selected from a distinguished group of nationally recognized neurosurgeons to attend the CNS Executive Leadership in Healthcare program this November. This elite conference brings together leaders who are shaping the future of neurosurgery—those who not only excel in the operating room, but who also drive innovation, growth, and meaningful change within healthcare.

The CNS chose these leaders to share how they advance research, foster transformation, and build organizations that never settle for complacency. We’re proud to congratulate Dr. Ahuja on being invited to help lead the next chapter of neurosurgical excellence.
