Things to celebrate:

1. A contract at a facility that has SLPs that are super fun, incredibly smart, love their patients, and wonderful to collaborate with!
2. A FEES request that was a great referral!
3. A FEES exam that resulted in allowing us to recommend an NPO patient resume oral intake after nearly a month of no oral intake.
4. Getting the FEES done within days of the request and not waiting a month or more for a hospital to complete an MBSS after a referral, making a patient wait even longer on NPO status.

Never take your ability to do normal, human tasks - like talking and eating - for granted! Thank God for what you have everyday, even when it seems to be the most basic and mundane things. ❤️❤️❤️

Hi, everyone! I'm thrilled to now be able to bring instrumental swallowing evaluations to your facility and straight to your patient's bedside.

Instrumental exams are different than a non-instrumental exam because they allow us to actually view the swallowing mechanism and see what happens to the bolus (the food and drink) as it is consumed by the patient.

This actual VIEW into the swallow gives us much more information and a more solid foundation to make our...
1. diagnoses about whether or not there is a swallowing issue
2. where the problem(s) is/are
3. identifying the underlying anatomical and physiological issues
4. whether or not the client is safe to eat and drink orally
5. what consistencies the client should consume to ensure safety
6. how the issues can be tackled in therapy
7. what strategies might help the patient
8. and more!

The instrumental tool that I use is Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing. This is a bit different than Modified Barium Swallow Studies. While there is NO "gold standard", FEES is less expensive and in most cases much more convenient.

I am located in Franklinton, LA but am ready to travel to a variety of neighboring parishes.

I'd love to chat more and see if I can assist your facility with dysphagia instrumentals!
