Dr. Basha is absolutely one of the best glaucoma specialists/ophthalmologist's one can find. If you have any eye problems, I would strongly recommend Dr. Basha to anyone who was in need of medical care. Just over a year ago at the age of 37, I was referred to Dr. Basha on a glaucoma consult due to an eye injury that I suffered playing sports. For the last year, Dr. Basha has provided treatment to combat extreme eye pressure problems that would range up towards 70. On top of the glaucoma, I had a recurring retinal detachment, which made his job even harder. You will not find a more compassionate, yet skilled doctor who truly loves people.

-Dr. Basha is an incredibly dedicated, board certified, fellowship trained, surgical ophthalmologist. You will not find a better caretaker for vision disorders and eye diseases.

People read Web pages in a F-shaped pattern that consists of two horizontal stripes followed by a vertical stripe!!!

In 2006 Jakob Nielsen, a leading web usability expert who co-founded usability consulting company Nielsen Norman Group with Donald Norman found when 232 participants fitted with eye-tracking cameras. These findings show that people do not read the text on webpages word-by-word, but instead generally read horizontally across the top of the webpage, then in a second horizontal movement slightly lower on the page, and lastly scan vertically down the left side of the screen.

This has been since confirmed by The Software Usability Research Laboratory at Wichita State University and Google labs.

Bringing a bigger issue at hand, the differences between reading a book and being on the internet. In printed books, the reader is engaged with the text, while the opposite is true in digital text where the reader is engaged on a shallower, less focused manner.

The Eyes of Sharbat Gula

Sharbat Gula's eyes have captivated the world since appearing on the cover of National Geographic on June 1985.

The image of the 12 year-old with her red scarf draped loosely over her head and her hypnotic light green eyes staring directly into the camera was named "the most recognized photograph" in the history of the magazine.

American Photo magazine named the image as an "unusual combination of grittiness and glamour".

This "modern day Mona Lisa" was found residing in the refugee camps of Nasir Bagh in Pakistan after both of the her parents were killed during the Soviet bombing of Afghanistan. Today, 30 years later Sharbat resides in Peshawar, Pakistan with her 2 kids and is currently being investigated by the state of Pakistan for forged residency documents.

Augmented-reality Contact Lenses

Since contact lenses were first manufactured in 1887, contact lenses have had a very slow evolutionary cycle. That is until now!

The world's top universities and largest tech companies are pouring significant amounts of money and resources into contact lens enhancement.

In 2012, Microsoft and the University of Washington announced they were working on contact lenses that monitor glucose levels.

That work was immulated and further progressed by Google in 2014 which announced a partnership with contact lens maker Alcon to bring glucose monitoring contact lenses to reality. Receiving patent approval in 2015 for their technology

Asides from glucose monitoring, a slew of other uses are being advanced including:

Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology, Boston Children’s Hospital, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are working on contact lens drug delivery capability built in.

Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed an infrared sensor that is being used in the production of night vision contact lenses.

At Bar Ilan University in Israel researchers are creating special lenses that translate images into sensations felt on the eye for patients that are blind.

The Tunnel of Love (Klevan, Ukraine)

An amusement railway that used to be just another train rail section, but eventually turned into one of the most romantic spots on Earth.

As trees were left to grow freely around the rails, the passing train was the only thing shaping its way through. Eventually, by crossing the Kleven village forest back and forth three times a day, the train shaped a closed tunnel according to it’s size.

Today the Tunnel of Love is highly popular among lovers: it is believed that if two people are sincere in their love and cross the tunnel while holding each other’s hands, their wishes will come true.

What does the shape of your pupils say about you?

One of the most interesting factors found is that the orientation of the pupil can be linked to an animal’s ecological niche.

Animals with vertically elongated pupils are very likely to be ambush predators which hide until they strike their prey from relatively close distance. They also tend to have eyes on the front of their heads. Foxes are clear examples of this.

In contrast, horizontally elongated pupils are nearly always found in grazing animals, which have eyes on the sides of their head. They are also very likely to be prey animals such as sheep and goats.

Computer models show that the vertically elongated pupils in ambush predators enhances their ability to judge distance accurately without having to move their head, which could give away their presence to

Horizontally elongated pupil enhances the amount of light they can receive in front of and behind them while reducing the amount of light from above and below. This allows them panoramic vision along the ground to help detect potential predators as early as possible.

So, vertically elongated pupils help ambush predators capture their prey and horizontally elongated pupils help prey animals avoid their predators.

Let's get technical for a second.

One's iris color depends on how much of the natural pigment melanin it contains. The more melanin in your iris, the darker your eyes will look (melanin levels are determined by your genes ). Taylor's eyes had a very specific, and rare, amount of melanin, but it was roughly the same as a person with blue eyes.

"There are various shades of blues and grays, with many in-between. Violet may have been her typical pigmentation," Norman Saffra, chairman of the ophthalmology department at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., told Life's Little Mysteries. "It's possible to have that eye color it all depends on the amount of melanin."
