Exciting News!
I’m honored to share that next month I’ll be partnering with Platoon 22 to offer seated massage.

As a fellow veteran, this opportunity means so much to me — to give back, connect, and help support those who dedicate themselves to service and wellness. 💪✨

I’m truly looking forward to this experience and can’t wait to bring a little relaxation and recovery to the Platoon 22 community.

✨ Want to live longer? Good news: you’re not entirely at the mercy of your DNA. While genetics do play a role, the bulk of your lifespan comes down to what you do and where you live. Studies estimate that inherited factors account for roughly 20-30% of variation in human lifespan. In fact, one large review puts it around ~15-30%. On the flip side: 70-80% (or more) of lifespan variation is down to environment, lifestyle, social and behavioural factors you can influence.

So: yes — your genes matter. But no — they’re not your life sentence. You have major control. Choose a healthy diet, stay active, avoid smoking, manage stress and build community. These are real levers for longevity.

I get asked often where most people carry their stress and tension. For my clients, I would say neck, shoulders AND scalp. The scalp contains hundreds of thousands of sensory nerve endings, but there’s no single exact count — because it varies by individual, location, and how you define “nerve ending.” However, researchers estimate that each square inch of skin on the scalp contains thousands of sensory receptors (for touch, pressure, pain, and temperature).

Did you know your nose might be your new favorite self-care tool? 👃🍊 Sniffing citrus (like oranges or lemons) can actually lift your mood and calm your nerves—basically nature’s way of saying “you’ve got this!” So go ahead, peel that orange and take a deep breath… your nervous system just sighed in relief.

By Thursday, the week’s weight often shows up in the face — eyes tight from screens, jaw slightly clenched, thoughts looping. When these soften, the whole body gets the message that it’s safe to rest.

✨ Your evening ritual

Find a quiet spot or lie in bed.
Close your eyes and take one slow breath in through the nose, out through the mouth.

Step 1 — Eyes:

Gently rub your palms together until they’re warm.
Cup them over your closed eyes and hold for about 20 seconds.
Darkness plus warmth tells the optic nerve to relax — your brain follows. This helps quiet the mind.
Step 2 — Jaw:

Let the mouth fall slightly open.
Massage along the sides of your face — where the jaw hinges near the ears.
Make small circles for 30 seconds on each side.
Let the tongue rest softly at the bottom of your mouth.
Step 3 — Finish:

Breathe out with a sigh. Notice how even your thoughts slow down a little when your face does.
Small things like this make big differences.
Do it before sleep, or anytime the day feels too much.

Simple practices like this are where healing begins — when the body feels safe enough to rest, the heart can finally open, and the mind can soften its grip.

Happy Friday!

One month before turning 95, Patricia Routledge wrote this, she died at age 96.

“I’ll be turning 95 this coming Monday. When I was younger, I often worried I wasn’t good enough—that I’d never be cast again, that I’d disappoint my mother. But these days begin in peace and end in gratitude.”

In my forties, my life finally began to make sense. Before that, I’d performed steadily—provincial stages, radio plays, West End productions—but felt somewhat lost. I was searching for something within myself, a home I hadn’t yet found.

At 50, I took a television role that many of you would later know me by—Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances. I thought it would just be a minor role, a brief moment. I never expected it to become beloved across the globe. That character taught me to embrace my quirks and quietly healed something deep within me.

At 60, I started learning Italian—not for my career, but simply so I could sing opera in its native tongue. I learned the gentle art of living alone without loneliness, reading poetry aloud each night—not to perfect diction, but to soothe my spirit.

At 70, I returned to Shakespearean theatre, a place I once thought I’d aged out of. This time, there was nothing to prove. I stepped onto those legendary boards with calmness. The audience felt that serenity. I had stopped performing; I was simply being.

At 80, I discovered watercolor painting. I painted flowers from my garden, nostalgic hats from my youth, and faces glimpsed on the London Underground—each painting was a silent memory made tangible.

Now, at 95, I write letters by hand. I’m learning the simple joy of baking rye bread. I still breathe deeply each morning. Laughter remains precious, though I no longer feel the need to make others laugh. Quietness is sweeter than ever.

I’m writing this today to share something simple and true:

Growing older isn’t a final act—it can be life’s most exquisite chapter if you allow yourself to bloom once more.

Let the years ahead be your treasure years.

You don’t have to be perfect, famous, or adored.

You only need to be present—fully—for the life that’s yours.

With warmth and gentle love,

— Patricia Routledge
