Wow!! Finally people, government and doctors are starting to really understand cannabis and its benefits 💚💚💚👏 kudos to you HOCO for recognizing this can actually help!!

They spend their days protecting our communities — often at great personal cost. For years, Howard County firefighters have been advocating for policies that recognize their health, recovery, and overall well-being.

Now, that work is paying off. Howard County has revised its Fire & Rescue substance policy to allow firefighters to use approved medical treatments while off-duty beginning January 31, 2026, with a requirement for valid medical authorization and a strict 12-hour prohibition before reporting to duty, while maintaining clear safety standards.

This moment shows how thoughtful policy can evolve to better support first responders — balancing wellness, responsibility, and public safety.
