Pink eye (conjunctivitis) is common in kids and can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or allergies. Symptoms include:

Red, itchy, or watery eyes
Discharge that may make eyelashes stick together
Sensitivity to light

What to do:
Keep hands clean and avoid touching eyes
Use separate towels and pillows to prevent spreading

Viral pink eye usually clears on its own
Bacterial pink eye may need antibiotic eye drops (your pediatrician will advise)

💡 Tip: If your child has pink eye, keep them home from school or daycare until cleared by a provider.

Our team at The Ped Center is here to answer questions and guide you through treatment if your child develops pink eye.

Young children are still learning how to chew and swallow safely, which means certain foods can pose a choking risk. Being aware of common hazards can help keep mealtimes safe.

✅ Tips to make food safer:
• Cut grapes and cherry tomatoes into quarters
• Slice hot dogs lengthwise and into small pieces
• Cook or shred hard vegetables
• Spread peanut butter thinly on bread or crackers
• Encourage children to sit while eating and chew thoroughly

Taking a few extra steps with food preparation can make a big difference in preventing choking.

Each month, our team chooses an organization to support through our Jeans for a Cause fundraiser! Staff can donate $5 to participate, and every dollar goes toward making a difference. 💙

This month, we’re proud to support F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (Family Resource, Information & Education Network for Down Syndrome), a Maryland-based non-profit that has supported families and individuals with Down Syndrome since 1999.

Funds raised help F.R.I.E.N.D.S. provide resources, advocacy, and community for expectant parents, new parents, and extended families in the Frederick County area.

It’s important to let kids know that all feelings are okay, even if every behavior that comes from those feelings isn’t. Teach your child that their emotions are real and valid, and help them find healthy ways to express them.

Remember: validating feelings builds emotional intelligence, resilience, and stronger connections. 💛
