Heavy legs, tight hamstrings, or pulling behind the knees are signs your legs need attention, especially if you sit or stand most of the day.

Stretching the legs supports circulation and makes movement feel easier.

Try this for 3–5 minutes:
Place one foot on a sturdy surface and gently hinge forward for a hamstring stretch.
Then step one foot back and press the heel toward the floor to stretch the calves.

Your legs carry you all day, so give them a reset.

“Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it.” — Plato

Winter naturally invites us to slow down. Colder temperatures, shorter days, and more time indoors can make it easier to sit longer and move less, but our bodies don’t thrive on stillness.

Movement keeps joints nourished, muscles strong, circulation flowing, and the nervous system engaged. Even small, consistent activity, stretching, walking, mobility work, or light strength, helps preserve how your body feels and functions through the winter months.

You don’t need intense workouts. You need regular movement.

At Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, we encourage patients to keep moving all season long to support mobility, comfort, and long-term health.

Bundle up. Move a little each day. Your body will thank you.

Warm, nourishing, and deeply supportive, bone broth is a winter staple for a reason!

Bone broth isn’t just comforting on cold days. It’s rich in nutrients that support your joints, gut, immune system, and overall recovery—especially when your body is under seasonal stress.

Why bone broth supports your body:
Bone broth contains collagen, amino acids, and minerals that help support joint health, tissue repair, gut lining integrity, and immune resilience. It’s also hydrating and easy to digest, making it a great option when your body needs nourishment without extra strain.

Simple Homemade Bone Broth Recipe:
Add beef or chicken bones to a large pot or slow cooker
Cover with water
Add 1–2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (this helps draw minerals from the bones)
Optional add-ins: onion, garlic, carrots, celery, bay leaf, and peppercorns
Simmer on low heat for 12–24 hours
Strain, season with sea salt, and enjoy warm

Sip it on its own, use it as a soup base, or cook grains and vegetables in it for an added nutrient boost.

We often remind patients that healing and resilience start with daily habits. Movement, nervous system support, rest, and nourishment all work together.

Sometimes the most supportive choices are also the simplest.

Tight hips often show up as low back tension, stiffness when walking, or discomfort getting out of the car.

When hips don’t move well, the rest of the body compensates.

Try this for 3–5 minutes:
Step into a gentle lunge and hold to stretch the hip flexors.
Then sit and cross one ankle over the opposite knee, easing into a figure-four stretch.

Healthy hips support smoother movement everywhere.

🍋 Lemon Ginger Tea

Supports digestion and circulation, helps warm the body, and provides antioxidants that support immune function. Ginger is especially helpful for soothing the throat and supporting the body during seasonal discomfort.

OR

🍯 Honey Cinnamon Tea
Naturally soothing for the throat, supports immune health, and provides antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Cinnamon helps support blood sugar balance, while honey offers gentle immune support and comfort during cold months.

Both are warming, hydrating, and supportive during winter, so choose the one your body is craving today.

At Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, we believe small daily choices add up to stronger seasonal wellness.

Winter can be tough on growing bodies, especially for kids.

Colder weather, more time indoors, heavier clothing, backpacks, winter sports, and seasonal illness can all add extra stress to a child’s developing nervous system and joints. That’s when concerns like colic flare-ups, recurring ear infections, growing pains, or sports-related aches often become more noticeable.

Gentle pediatric chiropractic care can help support your child’s body during these winter months by encouraging proper nervous system function, easing tension, and supporting overall comfort and resilience.

At Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, we provide safe, gentle chiropractic care tailored specifically for children—from infants to teens. Our approach is designed to support growing bodies, improve movement and balance, and help kids stay active and comfortable all season long.

Winter is about keeping families well—not just pushing through discomfort.

Give your child support that works with their body as they grow.

❄️ Injury Quiz Time: Winter Sports Edition ❄️

You wipe out skiing. Take a spill snowboarding. Twist an ankle playing winter pickleball.
What should you use first: heat or ice?

Answer: 👉 Ice first (most of the time).

After an acute injury, especially within the first 24–48 hours, your body responds with inflammation and swelling. Ice helps calm that initial inflammatory response, reduce swelling, and manage pain. Heat too early can increase blood flow and make swelling worse.

So when should you use heat?
Heat is better later, once swelling has gone down, to relax tight muscles and improve mobility during recovery, not immediately after injury.

Now here’s the part many people don’t know 👇
After the acute phase, therapies that support cellular healing can be incredibly helpful.
That’s where red light (infrared LED) therapy comes in.

Red light therapy supports the body at a cellular level by helping increase ATP production (your cells’ energy source). This can support tissue repair, circulation, and recovery without stressing already irritated tissues. It’s often a great follow-up once swelling is under control.

At Frederick Chiropractic Wellness Center, we help guide recovery from winter sports injuries with the right timing, the right tools, and a whole-body approach, so healing happens efficiently, not reactively.
❄️ Ice first
🔥 Heat later (when appropriate)
🔴 Red light to support healing

Your recovery strategy matters just as much as the injury itself.

If your back feels stiff after sitting, driving, or standing up, your spine is asking for movement.

The back thrives on gentle motion. When it doesn’t get it, discomfort and tightness show up fast.

Try this for 3–5 minutes:
Move through Cat–Cow on your hands and knees, slowly rounding and arching the spine with your breath.
Then sit tall and gently twist to each side, holding for 15–30 seconds.

Even a few minutes of movement helps your spine feel more supported.
