🧠 ✨ What’s happening in the brain when we expand positive beliefs through brain based therapy:

⚡️ Old wiring gets re-wired: Traumatic or stressful experiences get stored in the brain’s limbic system (especially the amygdala & hippocampus) in a raw, emotionally charged way; often disconnected from time, logic, or a sense of safety.

(Examples: “I’m not safe,” “I’m not good enough,” or “I have no control.”)

🔗 Processing & linking: Using brain based therapies + eye movements helps the brain integrate that memory.

💫 Installing new beliefs: When you focus on a positive thought (“I am enough,” “I can handle it,” “I am safe now”) while the brain is in this reprocessing mode, you’re reinforcing new neural connections that link the once-distressing memory to a new emotional truth; one that gets stitched into your psyche. 🧵 Make sense?

🔁The amazing brain rewires: Over time, these new thoughts become dominant. The old “I’m powerless” pathway weakens, & the “I’m capable and safe” pathway strengthens. This is the process called neuroplasticity. Sexy, right?

✨ Simply put:

🌿 EMDR helps your brain take old, painful memories that once triggered fear or shame & rewire them so your brain automatically pairs those memories with new, empowering beliefs.

🧘 Instead of reacting from fear, your brain starts to feel and believe the truth of your current safety and worth.

The old version runs on “I’m not enough.”
Therapy downloads a patch of “I am enough.” Period.

✨When our nervous system finally gets the memo...✨

🩶 Amazing Client #1 came in after a very activating incident. Her Oura Ring showed her being in high-HIGH stress mode since the jolting event. ⚡️

After one Brainspotting session (+ a day or 2 of integration time) she was quite surprised that it registered her in restorative mode; indicating she had re-found her home in a parasympathetic (our rest & digest) state.

Translation: her body literally showed she’d shifted from survival to healing.

💫 Soulful Client #2 shared with me:

She was in therapy for many years before & didn’t make any real gains. Her sessions were "catch up sessions." Engaging in brain based therapies + getting in relationship with her somatic body has "changed my life." Noted. She has a brightness & shine in her eyes now that is undeniable.

✨ In my office & on my couch, we don’t just heal old wounds; we rewire the story you tell yourself. All.day.long.

Using EMDR and Brainspotting, I help women install new, empowering beliefs like “I am enough,” “I am safe,” & “I am worthy.” AND, "I trust myself" & "I'm allowed to take up space." It's not just words, we literally anchor this belief deep in your nervous system until it becomes accessible truth.

Why does that matter? When you move/act/react from this embodied place, you make different choices for your life. You stop fawning, fighting or fleeing. There is a stillness inside that can not be easily shaken or taken.

It’s neuroscience meets soul work & the upgrade is YOU. 💫 I could not love this more.

🌿At Own Your Evolution, I spend a lot of time talking about safety; not the seatbelt & pepper spray kind (though, I'm a big fan of those things, too 😉).

🌱 I’m talking about the quieter, harder-to-pin-down kind: the internal sense of safety.

📣 For highly sensitive women, the world can sometimes feel like it’s coming at you in HD surround sound; too loud, too fast, too much. If you wait for the outside world to settle down before you relax, you’ll be waiting a long time. Especially in this current timeline we are sitting in.

🔄Here’s the shift: safety isn’t something we only find out there… it’s something we can build in here. 👆🏼(I'm pointing at your heart ♥️.)

🍃It’s the exhale when you remind yourself: “I don’t have to fix everything right now.”

🧘‍♂️ It’s choosing rest without guilt.

🛡️ It’s trusting that your worth doesn’t vanish when you set a boundary.

🪷 Internal safety is like your own emotional Home Base; always available, no matter what chaos the world brings. There is a palpable internal shift when we notice our energy leaving us to focus on other people’s issues (that we have no control over.) We must intentionally pull the energy back to our center.

👭 That’s the work we do together at Own Your Evolution: helping women grow roots of safety inside themselves, so life feels less like bracing for impact & more like taking up space with confidence.

✨ Online Anxiety: Is it you or the bots? 🤖

If you’ve noticed your anxiety spike after scrolling lately, you’re not imagining it.

Research shows that bot networks are stirring up conflict online; specifically designed to amplify outrage and keep us hooked. It's working well. 😡

The problem is your sweet & sensitive nervous system doesn’t know the difference between a real-life threat & a digital one. That endless scroll of arguments + negativity? It keeps your body stuck in fight-or-flight, takes you out of the precious present + disrupts sleep/body rhythms.

🌱 Here’s how to reclaim your calm:

Name it: “This isn’t mine, it’s manufactured.”

Pause: set a timer when you scroll.

Ground your fine self: put your phone down, grab a coloring book, a real book, or your tennis shoes, + create distance between you & those "comment zombies.”

Yesterday, I walked in the park for an hour to detox the bots. I listened to an owl hoot, smelled the crisp fall air & forgot about those "engagement leeches." ✌️

💡 Protecting your peace in a digital world is not weakness, it’s wisdom.

🧠 🗣️ What is Brainspotting therapy? 🛋️ 🪄

🥀 Sometimes, when we go through overwhelming situations, our experiences don't get fully get processed by the brain and body. Instead, it gets ‘stuck’ in our nervous system; showing up as as anxiety, tension, flashbacks, or even physical pain.

❤️‍🩹 Brainspotting helps your brain & body finish processing what got stuck.

👀 The idea is that where you look affects how you feel. By finding an eye position connected to the memory or feeling, we can directly access the part of your brain that holds it.

🪄 Yesterday, I did many sessions of brain spotting & clients are frequently surprised by how finding an eye position while thinking of an unresolved emotion or situation, activates their body.

👥 When you focus on that spot, your body may bring up sensations, emotions, or images. Instead of pushing them away, we just notice them together in a safe & compassionate way.

🧠This allows your brain and body to release the stress that was frozen there. I notice clients often sigh, twitch, & then feel lighter, and/or notice your body relaxing as things shift.

🧘 Over time, the nervous system learns it doesn’t need to keep firing that old survival response, and the distress lessens. Leaving you moving through life more neutrally, vibrantly & calmly.

📕 What does it mean when I say “Own Your Narrative?” 📖

I am offering that you can:

✍️ Taking authorship of your story – recognizing that your life experiences are yours, and you get to decide how to interpret, frame, and tell them. Instead of letting others define you by their labels, judgments, or assumptions, you define yourself.

🪬 Integrating past experiences – acknowledging what has happened to you (including painful or difficult events) without letting those events completely dictate your identity.

💪 Finding empowerment: shifting from a sense of being a passive character in your life to being the narrator or author. You may not have chosen everything that happened, but you can choose how you make meaning from it and how it shapes your next steps. This includes who you keep in your life despite your history/relationship.

🗣️ Reclaiming your voice – moving away from internalized shame, silence, or stories imposed by family, culture, or trauma, and instead speaking your truth in a way that feels authentic to you.

In practice, it could look like:

🌳 Saying “I am a survivor” instead of “I’m broken.”

Telling your life story from a perspective that highlights resilience, growth, or meaning.

🌟 Acknowledging struggles but not reducing your identity to them.

👉 It’s essentially about agency—you are not just living your story; you’re also the storyteller.

I'm finding brain based therapies (EMDR, IFS, Brainspotting, Mindfulness) are potent medicine in helping women own their narrative. It has enormously benefited me in my life journey.

📍 Out of Office (but still in the work zone 📕 )

I’m stepping out of my therapy office this week and stepping into learning more about EMDR – attachment-focused edition 🧠✨with Dr. Laurel Parnell.

I’m updating my “therapist software” so I can come back with fresh tools, deeper insight, and maybe even a few brain facts you didn’t know you needed. 👀

💌 From my inbox (from a few months ago) 💌

"If you're not someone who gatekeeps your routines, would you share what you do to keep healthy and glowy. I'm especially needing guidance in my 50's?"

🌿 I do not gatekeep my wellness routine. I share my healthy habit stacking system with anyone who asks. (The only thing I gatekeep: the words written by me on my ownyourevolution.com site and my Psychology Today profile that have been outright stolen a few times. (Insert my salty - spicy face 😤)

⛅️ My Rise & Shine goes like this:

👅 I start every morning by a stainless steel tongue scraper to remove overnight build up.
🧼 Wash & Gua Sha my face with the delicious oils from Living Libations. I've used these oils for at least a decade. My fave is the Seabuckthorn.
🍋 Using my anti-inflammatory/detoxifing elixir - that I make every Sunday (will put my recipe in the notes....) I mix 2-3 TBS of the aforementioned elixir + 2 oz of fresh aloe vera juice + Sakara Life mineral drops in a glass of warm or room temp water to give my body an internal shower.
☀️ Often I sit in the sun for 10-20 minutes listening to the birds & day prepping. If interested, read the research on the effects of morning sun by Andrew Huberman.
🧖 Sauna or red light few days week and/or use De La Heart lymph massage tool with body oils. I rotate through these practices during the week.
✨ I've recently partnered with a skincare meets clean wellness line (Oliveda - Olive Tree Pharmacy) that I have not only fallen in love with but has also been seriously effective. My skin is in full glow up mode. Its a line from the EU that checked every box: clean, potent, sustainable. Link in notes.

🧘‍♂️ That's a start to the rituals that have keep me well (haven't been sick since Covid in 2021) + keep my 52 year old bod happy + humming. Keep asking. I have much to share. ♥️

I help clients design a vibrant life by teaching clients how to tune into their internal wisdom using holistic approaches including positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy and brief solution oriented therapy.
