November is Epilepsy Awareness Month!
Throughout November, I am sharing lessons learned in life, entrepreneurship, and health from my epilepsy journey.
Additionally, Capitalize is contributing to Epilepsy Awareness from all our monthly revenue. I hope this series is hopeful, inspiring, and educational.
Lesson #10 Your Epilepsy Will Scare Some People
And it’s okay. Epilepsy is mysterious and generally characterized by the most sensational of interactions. When people learn of your condition, they become fearful or maybe even avoid you.
Share what you can, ask for the space that you need, and if people are still fearful, you have done all you can.
Recently, I was at a coffee shop meeting someone for the first time. I had an adverse reaction to flashing light. It took me a moment to regroup. The person I was with noticed, and I shared that I had epilepsy, what had just happened, eased their fears, and resumed the conversation. They were great.
Sometimes, folks are not. Either way, share what you feel comfortable, and the rest is up to them.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help.
Let’s take care of those brains. We only have one.
