Heat Advisory and Asthma! A heat advisory has been issued for the next few days in our local area. Asthma sufferers should take precaution during these environmental changes. Increases in humidity and temperature can cause the airways to become irritated. Extreme temperature changes and summer months can cause inflammation in the asthmatic who already have inflamed airways. While it's not possible to control the weather, you can take steps to limit asthma attacks from extreme heat. If your asthma tends to worsen during the hot summer months here are a few tips for you: Use an air conditioner and try to stay in a controlled environment. Monitor weather forecast for temperature, humidity, air pressure changes and O-Zone alerts. Take your asthma medications as prescribed. Using your controller medication is very important in managing asthma.
