Burning or tingling on the outside of your thigh? It’s often irritation of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve — a sensory nerve that runs under the inguinal ligament and down the outer thigh.
Because it’s a nerve (not a muscle), aggressive stretching usually won’t solve it. Instead of stretching harder, we focus on improving mobility and gently mobilizing the nerve.
Common reasons this can happen:
• Tight or compressive clothing around the waist/hips
• Prolonged sitting or driving
• Pregnancy
• Rapid weight gain
• Direct pressure from belts or tool belts
• Hip flexor tightness increasing tension at the inguinal ligament
• Postural changes or pelvic alignment shifts
If you’re feeling burning, numbness, or pins-and-needles along the outer thigh, it may not be a muscle issue at all.
