A Compass for Your Journey
The road signs have vanished, the path ends abruptly, and a fork waits ahead. Do you veer right or left, not knowing what each direction holds?
This is a crossroads we all encounter. We pause, circle through the same thoughts, and wrestle with the weight of making a choice. The uncertainty can feel like a heavy fog.
To steady myself when facing these choices, I keep a compass close as I write in my journal. This age-old tool offers a quiet assurance, always pointing north. Its presence beside me as I write anchors my thoughts and brings clarity.
Let’s take a moment to look at the history of the compass. It was invented about 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty in Ancient China (202 BC – 220 AD) and was called the South Pointing Fish. At first, people used it mainly to arrange buildings and objects following Feng Shui, an ancient practice that aims to bring harmony to the environment based on the laws of the Heavens.
With this in mind, I marvel at the compass’s elegant simplicity and its enduring role across centuries, guiding explorers, artists, pilots, and adventurers on countless journeys.
The compass gently reminds us to trust our journey, believe in something beyond ourselves, and tune in to the quiet wisdom that lives within.
