Our bariatric weight loss programs (gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and bariatric revision) remained strong in 2025, in spite of the prevalence of GLP-1 drugs. This The New York Times article may explain why: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/health/older-people-glp1-weight.html?unlocked_article_code=1.-U8.ZQoU.zR8quZZ2lEXr&smid=em-share with Dr. Seun Sowemimo

In some studies, half of patients stopped taking GLP-1s within a year despite the benefits, citing the expense and side effects.

Cancer becomes deadly when it spreads. Could what we eat influence that process?

A receptor in our body called CD36 appears to help cancer cells spread. It's upregulated by palmitic acid, a type of saturated fat found in meat, dairy, and processed foods made with palm oil.

This may explain why meta-analyses and a systematic review found that saturated fat negatively impacts breast cancer survival.

📈 People with high saturated fat intake were 50% more likely to die of breast cancer.

🥛 Just one serving of high-fat dairy a day may result in a 50% increased risk of dying from breast cancer.

A similar trend is seen in prostate cancer survival: High-fat dairy intake increases the risk of dying from prostate cancer. It seems the animal fat is problematic.

The good news?

✅ Randomized trials show that when people with early-stage breast cancer lower their saturated fat intake, there is an increase in breast cancer survival.

✅ As a bonus, they experience a reduction in heart disease and diabetes, too.

I used to think milk was the secret to strong bones. Turns out, the story is more complicated than those 'Got Milk' ads. Countries that drink the most milk have the highest hip fracture rates! Leafy greens, beans, and fortified plant milks strengthen bone long-term. What do you drink? Let me know in the comments!

I always thought fish *made* omega-3s. Nope! They get it from plants, just like borrowing umbrellas. Skip the fishy middleman (and the toxins!) and go straight to flax, chia, walnuts, or algae oil. Your heart (and the fish) will thank you! Want more health hacks? Follow me!
