Our annual staff Holiday Party is a favorite tradition at The iMsk & Spine Group.

Our staff is like family. This is why the care at our offices feels so attentive and warm. This isn’t just staff; these are people who care about each other. And this shared humanity-first attitude cascades into how we value our patients!

Our Holiday Party is like our professional family reunion, gathering physicians, staff, and friends together to reminisce, share appreciation, and laugh.

Educating pain patients is sometimes as simple as just taking the time to explain a bit of the body’s architecture.

While understanding the way a body is put together may not directly reduce pain, the knowledge can give us enough insight to make us feel a little less lost. Dr. Micheal Nicolosi, DO, of The iMsk & Spine Group gives a quick, easy rundown on a common source of pain, the facet joints in the spine.

A patient who understands their body a little more can work with a physician better because there can be clearer conversations to determine pain care solutions.

It’s this sort of simple information that can sometimes make all the difference in some cases

What makes pain care treatment successful is often the listening.

While it is easy to think that pain care is about the medicine and procedures, in reality most patients need ongoing solutions to their management. For Dr. Michael Nicolosi, this means listening to what is going on for the patient with every visit.

There is a real psychological component to how we perceive pain. Often the ability to fee heard and understood plays a role in easing the anxieties which worsen the perception of symptoms.

Here, Dr. Nicolosi educates residents at Nassau University Medical Center Pain Medicine & Rehabilitation, giving instruction on Intracept, which is an advanced spinal procedure.

Pain is a part of life. There are no awards for ignoring it or trying to “tough it out.” In fact, by owning up to it and just saying, yes, it hurts, you Brin yourself close to the strength you need to address it.

Too often we want to “get back to normal,” but sometimes we just won’t be able to. Change is a part of life, after all, and some changes we have to accommodate. When dealing with chronic pain, we often have to live by these limitations. Embrace change; it will make working with your challenges easier.

Trying to describe what we’re going through can be challenging. Sometimes it takes the weirdest analogies to help people get it. Keep talking about your pain; keep trying to find ways to explain it. There is no right way to represent it, as long as it make sense to you.

So much to do, so much to do! Dealing with pain can feel like an endless list of to-do’s, and it becomes a source of stress unto itself. Try not to think of the “big list’ all the time; try to focus only on the task in front of you, and it will help you manage things with a lot less consternation.
