Signs of Vision Issues in Children:

Parents should watch for signs of eye problems, as kids may not recognize or report them. Common symptoms include squinting, frequent headaches, rubbing eyes, or difficulty reading. Behavioral clues like sitting too close to screens or struggling with schoolwork may also indicate issues. The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) notes that 1 in 10 children has a vision problem significant enough to impact learning, such as poor eye teaming or tracking. More concerning signs—crossed eyes, a white pupil in photos, or light sensitivity—could signal conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye) or, rarely, retinoblastoma, requiring urgent evaluation.
