Congratulations to Kial McGraw!

Kial was nominated by his supervisor, Randy Warner, for his skills, attitude, and dedication to the painting program and the Agency. He always strives to improve his quality and speed, performing painting assignments without hesitation. He is the "consummate team player," who offers to take on other responsibilities when the need arises. He is an excellent vocational instructor and has great rapport with his students.

Thank you, Kial, for your dedication to the youth we serve as well as your dedication to the Agency!

Congratulations to Angel Ortiz!

Mr. Angel Ortiz was nominated as employee of the month by James Gilmore for helping to guide youth participating in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous within the OASAS/VanClef substance use disorder program. Mr. Ortiz was recognized for managing his staff in such a way that "they're tough but still upbeat, and the cleanliness of the cottage is EXEMPLARY." He was acknowledged for helping residents learn about self-care and pride in their environment. He was praised for his demeanor and not ruling by fear, but rather by high expectations, good role modeling, good humor, hard work, rewards and consequences, and motivating the residents to expect more of themselves. Mr. Ortiz has been skilled at showing youth that "sober living can be cool, too" and positioning sobriety in a positive way. Youth respect, trust, admire, and listen to Mr. Ortiz, and as a peer, he is positive and helpful, which makes it so much easier for others to be and do the same.

Thank you, Angel, for your dedication to the youth we serve as well as your dedication to the Agency!

Congratulations to these Paws First teams who recently successfully completed all requirements for the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) examination and AKC Trick Dog certification: Jamie Sage and Charlie, Jasmine Walker, Brayden G., and Chai, and Saraya DePuy, Adam O., and Bear, David Tucker, James B., and Bert, and Regina Durbin and Louie.

Completion of these certifications represents a significant achievement, reflecting a high level of commitment, training, and teamwork. As outlined in the Paws First Program Overview, the CGC exam is a comprehensive, ten-step evaluation that assesses a dog’s ability to demonstrate appropriate behavior, responsiveness, and composure in various real-world situations. Additionally, the Trick Dog certification requires mastery of specific skills taught through positive reinforcement, collaboration, and consistency. Well done!

A third observes that she "consistently shows her positive attitude and creates a safe space for staff and residents."

Hi 👋 from me, Oreo, one of the horses at WGA. Did you know I grow-in my winter coat and it creates a remarkable barrier that acts as natural insulation keeping me warm against the elements? I'd like you to stay warm and healthy this winter, too. Don't forget to put on a hat, gloves, scarf and warm coat when going outside. Have a great day and happy New Year!
