We met at 15. Got married at 24.

Moved to the United States while I was completing my medical training.

We moved through Houston, Detroit, Boston and finally settled in the San Francisco bay area.

Every new city required adaptation.

Every training phase raised the standard.

Every transition demanded resilience.

Long hours. Exams. Overnight calls. Financial pressure. Immigration paperwork. Uncertainty about what came next.

Through all of it, we were building two things at the same time:

A career.

And a life.

We started in tiny apartments with limited furniture and large ambitions.

Over time, that became two boys, three dogs - Oboe, Riff, and Cody - and a home filled with movement, noise, perspective, love, and respect.

My wife has been more than a life partner.

She has been a partner in decisions, in business, in content, and in risk.

Through professional uncertainty, long training years, pivots, and the quiet pressure that comes with building something from scratch.

Ambition is sustainable when someone believes in your long-term direction - especially during seasons when results are not yet visible.

This Valentine’s Day, I’m grateful for Nidhi - my life partner - for standing beside me through uncertainty, ambition, long hours, and the life we’ve built together.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you - wishing you health, stability, and people who stand beside you through every season.

Most of you know my Harvard rejection story. It reached more than 1 million people here.

But that wasn’t the hardest part.

The part that never fits headlines came after.

By then I thought I understood America - two years in Houston, three in Detroit during internal medicine residency. Five years felt like enough to “figure it out.” I was wrong.
Boston had its own rhythm - the rigid Harvard protocols, unspoken expectations, a different kind of pressure.

My wife and I were living in a tiny apartment with our dog, a broken window I never had time to fix, constant street noise, and every fourth night on hospital call.
I survived on coffee just to stay awake and present.

Back pain. Brain fog. A fatigue that sleep didn’t touch.

What followed were years where nothing felt linear or reassuring.

→ Uncertainty
Long stretches with no clear map. Decisions without guarantees, timelines, or reassurance that the effort would pay off. I learned to keep moving without seeing the finish line.

→ Starting over
More than once I had to become a beginner again - new systems, new expectations, new ways of proving myself. Comfortable would have been easier. Growth rarely is.

→ Distance from family
Even with my wife beside me, being far from home carried a quiet weight - missing everyday moments, balancing responsibility here while part of my heart stayed there.

→ Self-doubt
Not dramatic - just persistent. Showing up on long nights, wondering if the sacrifices were worth it, with no clear way to measure progress.

Those years taught me tolerance for uncertainty.

That’s the real lesson.

Real progress rarely comes from confidence.
It comes from learning to function when confidence is absent.

If you’re in a phase that feels slow, unclear, or heavier than expected - you’re not behind.

You’re in the part that shapes you.

Rating chocolates 🍫 (0 = worst ⚠️) Dr Sethi

Most people think “chocolate is unhealthy.” That’s not true.

It depends on the percentage.

Dark chocolate (≥70%) can support metabolic health in moderation — thanks to polyphenols and lower sugar.

The dose and the quality matter.

Do you check the cocoa percentage before buying chocolate or just the brand name?

Comment “YES” and I’ll share my top 5 recipes I eat every week - and often recommend to my patients. I’ll send it straight to your inbox.
