This day in history: Louis Chevrolet
1911, William C. Durant and Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet founded the Chevrolet Motor Company, named after Louis. Durant, previously the head of Buick, hired Louis to drive Buicks in promotional races, and believed Louis' fame would lead to a successful new company. The first Chevrolet, the Series C Classic Six, was designed in 1911 and incorporated into the 1913 model. In 1918, General Motors acquired Chevrolet, and it quickly became a sales leader within GM.
