🌟 Important Update for Adult Adoptees in Utah 🌟
Beginning November 1, 2025, HB129 goes into effect, granting adult adoptees access to their original birth certificate.
We are VERY excited about this step forward for adoptee rights! But here’s what our Post Adoption Specialist, Becky Davis, wants you to know:
An original birth certificate can hold deep emotional significance for many adoptees. However, if your goal is to search for and possibly reunite with a birth parent, it’s helpful to know that the information on the certificate—particularly for adoptions from the 1950s to 70s—may not always be accurate, as some birth parents used aliases or incomplete names during that time. This can sometimes make the search more challenging.
For a more direct path to finding biological relatives, DNA testing through a commercial genealogy company is often a powerful tool. And if you were adopted through Children’s Service Society, our Connections Program is here to provide guidance and support for reunion efforts between birth family and adoptees.
