On a recent episode of Hormones & Hope, retired dentist Dr. Cynthia shared her perspective on ONJ and osteoporosis medications, and why it became something she paid close attention to over the years.
From a dental standpoint, what makes ONJ concerning isn’t how common it is, it’s how difficult it can be to manage once it starts. When bone begins to deteriorate, treatment options are limited and can sometimes be invasive.
And that conversation reinforced something important: Bone health and oral health are not separate.
If you’re being treated for osteoporosis, your dentist needs to be part of that conversation. If you have untreated gum disease, infections, or pending dental work, addressing those early can make a meaningful difference.
The goal isn’t to scare anyone away from medication. It’s to make sure care is coordinated and preventive steps are taken.
These are the conversations that truly matter.
If you haven’t listened to this episode of Hormones & Hope, I highly recommend it.
