Meet Bill and Steve Petzolt 👋, two brothers who’ve shared vacations, bike rides and countless memories… and now, an unexpected heart journey. ❤️

Within months of each other, both brothers underwent the Watchman implant procedure, which is a minimally invasive treatment that helps prevent blood clots in patients with AFib by sealing off the left atrial appendage.

Same hospital, same doctor, same care. But this time, their journey wasn’t about shared vacations or bike rides. It was about navigating the Watchman procedure together, with Dr. Chandrasekar Palaniswamy and their care team here at Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital guiding them every step of the way.

Today, thanks to the Watchman procedure, both brothers have gone from managing AFib with blood thinners to reclaiming their health. And most importantly, they’re back to doing what they love: traveling together and enjoying bike rides throughout the Central Valley. 🚴

For the Petzolt brothers, this heart procedure didn’t just treat their AFib, it gave them a second chance to live the life they both enjoy together.

Earlier this year, Dr. Rohit Sundrani and the team successfully performed the hospital’s first TriClip procedure — a minimally invasive treatment for a leaky tricuspid heart valve.

When Stacey Hillenbrand traveled abroad for bariatric surgery, she never imagined the fight that awaited her afterward.

After returning home, Stacey faced a life-threatening complication — a rare but dangerous leak in her surgical staple line. It was a critical moment, and that’s when Dr. Kelvin Higa and his dedicated team at Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital stepped in.

Dr. Higa and his staff performed multiple surgeries, provided intensive care and monitored Stacey around the clock to ensure her recovery.

Today, Stacey is thriving. Thanks to the specialized care she received right here in the Valley, she’s back to enjoying life with her family — grateful for a second chance and the specialized care and support close to home.

In recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, our team took part in a meaningful and educational day led by experts from Community’s stroke program.

Through interactive games, a live brain procedure demonstration by Medtronic, and inspiring success stories from recent stroke patient care, we deepened our understanding of stroke awareness and the critical importance of recognizing the signs.

To close out Hospital Week, we celebrated with a “Funky Friday” full of fun and creativity!

Team members enjoyed games, got crafty making bracelets and keychains, and cooled off with delicious Cold Stone ice cream.

It was the perfect way to end a week of appreciation and celebration!
